The white building that you see at the Mount Lavinia station is the location of the hospital scene in English director David Lean's 1957 classic movie "Bridge on the River Kwai". This movie was made in Sri Lanka in 1956-1957. The actor William Holden has a beach scene with a lady near a fishing boat at this location. The building is actually a hotel which was converted to a hospital for the movie. 😎📽

Great views. This is my favorite train journey in Sri Lanka. This particular train is called "Ruhuna kumari". From Colombo's Maradana railway station this train travels south to Galle. At Galle the train engine changes to the other side of the train and travels to the final stop which is a city called Matara. Your video should have continued from the Galle station stop. But anyway next time.

There are first and second class reserved seats which you have to book and purchase before the journey but for the non reserved second and third class seats you can simply rock up to the station, purchase a ticket from the counter 'and go'. Being unreserved, you may not always get a seat though.
