I LOVE that sliding oil shield you made. Definitely gonna remember that when I build mine.

Did you ever make the video that you talk about in this video of setting one of these DSM-A's? I would be really interested to see that since I am learning to run mine.

I believe this is my first post to your vids. I've seen a few now and this one regarding your Hardringe automatic is pretty cool! As a newb machinist in my mid 50's, it's way over my head, but I enjoy seeing how these machines work! Congratulations on getting it on line, the benefits will be well worth the effort! Happy New Year to you and yours, and looking forward to your future vids! Razor!

Thank you I plan on making more machinist style videos. They seem to be of more interest then the type video I made about the Roebling co. It was a 4 day shoot and a lot of effort in editing it and it struggled to break 1000 views were the machine views do that in a day, and for much less effort in making.

Bravo!!! I'm in the bush leagues compared to your setup but I enjoy your videos and I'm learning a lot about how the big boys do it, by osmosis. Keep up the films.

Hi Dave Happy New Year. Just a couple of thoughts, I have the same problem as you are having with coolant and make dams from bits of foam or polystyrene and jam them in between machine and tray, to get the flow going back to the tank. If you have a station available, before parting off you could put another ejector / auto feed cycle in the sequence to position the part for parting off.

Just bought one. Did you use a phase inverter and if so what one? Be a while till I get going but hope soon! I’m looking for some parts and any links where? Also where can I get new parts?

DSMA question, I have one with the same hydraulic collet closer. My spindle belts broke and I need to remove the closer. I took out the drawtube and unscrewed the left end of the spindle, left handed thread. Expected the cylinder to come off but it ran out of thread and won't pull off. Have you ever had yours off or does your manual show a view of that type. My manual only shows the vari grip air closer and the standard type not this one.

I have the regular DSM 59 it's in super good shape it said for 30 years with a tarp on it in a machine shop the bed looks like it has never been touched. I'm to the point where I'm starting to buy tool holders and things like that I've just made a bunch of feet locking feet and cam nuts so I can buy cheaper tool holders that are missing those pieces and just slap them together and they work fine. boy but they have to be dead nuts on I found the tolerances are amazing. Anyway I have need to learn how to make those larger Form Tools for the multi tool holders. I have seen some pretty elaborate form tools made for these lathe. I have yet to find a good tutorial on the proper way to lay one of these Form Tools out what kind of rake you put on the the bottom you know the whole bit. Anyway it would be a great help to me and probably a lot of other people if you could do it tutorial on that aspect of course if you feel like it.

Hi, I just bought a 1979 DSM-A, where do you go to get replacement parts for these. I specifically am looking for replacement programmer trip blocks and a limit switch. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
@trainman46029 жыл бұрын
The limit switches can be obtained from a good electrical supply house. All parts particular to the lathe can be purchased from Hardinge.

I set up and ran 2 of these machines, a manual version and several automated drilling machines at a radio antenna manufacturer back in the 90's. I love these wonderful machines but they do prefer a climate controlled environment. Sadly the owner sold out and the new guy decided to farm out nearly everything we made. He had little respect for his employees and their skills. Now he is out of business.
