Great video - well narrated 😎👍🏽 Spot on with your analysis of XC 🙂👍🏽 I first went spotting to New Street in July 1984…it was very busy and interesting then…a fantastic array of great diesel & electric locomotives with the odd XC HST thrown in 😄👍🏽 great times.

The 730 units are surprisingly comfy for new build trains, I've been on a few on the euston to Milton Keynes service 😊

@davidclarke8074 I just hope someone gets the remaining ones that never went to Northern. Wouldn't surprise me if they end up in Newport

One of life's mysteries is cross-country?! Surely they can double their trains or use different fleet? Anyway, great video and loads of variety 👌

I think your next continental trip should be to Vienna because I know you love the rail jets

Great video there. As for long distance cross country services. I am with you on this debate mate. Personally if I operated the services like the Aberdeen/Edinburgh to Penzance services. I would use loco-hauled push-pull stock with the locomotive at the Scotland end and the cabcar at the Penzance end of the train with 110mph running. Rolling stock would be the CAF Mk5's like the TPE stock but 8/9 car sets and the locomotives would be Co-Co type like the Euro4001 from Stadler. Although I would consider going down the Metra path and buy 10 Class 60's and repurpose the lot, send them off to Stadler for a complete gut and rebuild into something like the Euro4001 but with all new controls, traction motors and HEP equipment inside the ex-Class 60 shell. Power unit could be the Caterpillar C-175 or the Cummins QSK95 type rated at 4400hp that would give 700hp for HEP (Head End Power) and 3700hp for traction in push and pull capability. Time for the Voyagers to meet their maker and get some proper stock on those workings. Just an idea but better than the crappy Voyagers in my opinion. I never liked them and they were a retrograde to the Class 47 hauled stock.

I spent all my spare time there when I was a youth when proper trains had slam doors & choked you with the diesel fumes unlike modern passenger trains nowadays that don’t have the same appeal

I use real time trains for my trainspotting as well.

That station used to be crammed full of spotters. But then, it had real trains, old diesels and Electrics. Used to down to Saltley depot.

The 730’s take the power a lot better then the 323’s With 730 It is brakes off straight to power 323 brakes off , a lot a slip , then slowly the power comes

I agree with you 100% about the Cross Country Voyagers that are not fit for the purpose. I use them regularly and, most of the time stand for the whole of my journey. The trains are far too short and it must also be remembered that one (in both 4 and far 5 car sets) is first class! I remember one trip from Banbury to Stafford (that was "graced" by 2 Voyagers totalling 9 cars!) changing seats at Leamington, Coventry. Birmingham Intl., and Wolverhampton because the train was completely reserved and packed to the gills. IMO, more railway vloggers like yourself should continue to call out the likes of CC and TfW that make the life of the passenger absolute hell on occasions.

Aren't CrossCountry meant to be getting East Mids' 222s once the 810 Aurora fleet comes in?

Lovely video, but what happened to the Camera? There's something odd with the coloring on the videos. Only this video and the March (Fen Line) video has it. It looks like you've grabbed a VHS camera and recorded with that lol. Love, CRP~
