A cold but enjoyable time spent at Dover Priory on the South Eastern Mainline where we see services from South Eastern Railway and a rail tour from West Coast Railways.
Dover Priory was opened in 1861 and was for a time a temporary terminus for the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. In November of the same year the station was made into a through station after a tunnel was completed to connect the station to the western docks of the town of Dover where another station was created, the Dover Harbour Station.
The station was then modernised from 1930 to 1932.
In 1959 the station was electrified under the act of British Railways, this was done via the Chatham Railway. The line running up to Ramsgate and Deal was electrified in 1961 along with the section of line to Folkestone.
High Speed services started running into the station in 2009.
My next station will be Gatwick Airport on the Brighton Mainline.
