Used to work next to the line between Ashford and Hastings used to see many old Thumper's in the day you could hear them coming from miles away. Great days. Another great video sir keep them coming. Best regards

Fantastic video there Jarred and a great to see the Hastings Thumper units in action still. Jammy bugger haha !! Give you a quick history on that class mate. It's the old class 201 units that were made up of sets of 6 cars each with two power cars at either end . I think there were 45 of these units and they ran the Hastings to London Charing Cross and Hastings to Cannon Street services up until 1986 when they were withdrawn and replaced by the class 421CIG and 423 VEP sets. The reason for the straight-sided carriages was that conventional trains could not fit through the tunnels between Hastings and Tonbridge, so straight-sided carriages had to be made. The set you saw there was made up of two power cars (Mountfield and Tunbridge Wells) are from two different sets (numbers 1001 & 1013), two carriages from two other sets and the middle two are from class 421 CIG and 421 CEP respectively.
