Thank you again Roy for some great footage and memories, that double headed class 31 sand train used to run on the joint line before November 1982, I signalled it through many times, I liked the light 47 reversing, they make you change ends now to reverse, they were better days then where common sense was still allowed to be used, thank you yet again Roy.

Very good Roy. Sadly I largely ignored trains around this time so missed this whole era. Changed a bit around Peterborough now! Lots more vegetation and fences. :(

I came to Peterborough the following year and got to see some of these trains, although I think the 31s were no longer on the passenger trains by then. Oh, for a time machine.... Wasn't the Royal Train something special - a mixture of 5 generations of coaches. This formation was made up of Mk 2 BFK (no. 2905 (14105)), a Mk 3 sleeper (I've no information on this coach), the next coach is an ex-LNWR coach on a modified Mk1 underframe (the body was built in 1905 and was moved to royal duties in 1920), Mk1 RF (2907 (M325)), 2 Mk1 Royal coaches (2901 and 2902/499), 2904 (TS 12001 (from the prototype HST)), 2903 (TF 11001 (also from the prototype HST)), and last but not least 2906 (BFK 14112). 2905 is fitted with a powerplant to supply 415V 3-phase electricity to the train.

They got rid of near enough all of our loco hauled trains now we have overcrowded cramped conditions talk about progress, i used to go out my way to use the trains for fun but the claustrophobic conditions and health and safety with sealed up windows has put me off big time

Yes Neil that was the Royal train when the Queen went to Ely Cathedral on Maundy Thursday.
