Trains at: Reading, GWML, 21/11/16, Part 1/2

A brilliant morning spent at the always busy station of Reading on the GWML where we see countless services from Cross Country, Great Western Railway and freight from DB Cargo UK.
This is a great station to film at and it's one I'm always going to keep coming back to because of the sheer volume of traffic that passes through this station and all of the destinations that are served, and obviously the sheer amount of HST sets that are seen throughout. Please keep an eye out for part 2 where I catch the Black 5's being hauled by a WCR class 33.

Most enjoyable film mate, GWML has been pretty tits up recently, especially around Swindon, a great film Jarred, lots of HSTs which I always thoroughly enjoy. like from me again Jarred

Thanks very much mate, the GWML always seems to get heavily affected when the weather turns. The Riviera Line is always the worst part affected along the coastal sections, I'm glad you enjoyed that film mate

Great video mate. Absolutely love it here although the electrification spoils the overall presentation of this station as once upon a time it looked so so different. Great variety though and nice capture of the 180's and 150001. 😊

Driver Brian cooper on the nameplate case you didn't know, was the HST driver killed in the Ladbroke Grove crash in 1999, don't know why they don't have a nameplate for the Turbo driver Michael Hodder as it wasn't his fault either, it was a bad signalling location which was the cause. thankfully an accident like this is impossible today. They also have a nameplate to Stan Martin, the HST driver killed in the Ufton Nervert crash in 2004

Ah right ok I remember that crash on the news, absolutely tragic and your quite right it wasn't any drivers fault as the signal in question was put directly infront of the sun, so the turbo driver thought it was amber and not red. But even so the AWS should have gone off but sadly wasn't working so he had no way on knowing he was heading towards that HST. But thanks for letting me know

Great video mate :) will we definitely be seeing the new Hitachi trains next summer running from Cornwall into Devon through to London Paddington? :) I'll definitely miss the HST 125 :(

Kieran told me the reason that they put Ealing Broadway on the boards and station when it's going to Paddington is because that's a slow service and they want as many passengers as possible on the fast services into Paddington to stop overcrowding for stopping trains :D

There is a fun fact about 43029 when the then FGW did the Barbie livery it was mocked up as 43001 and was also the last HST Power car to carry the old Intercity Swallow livery

4:08 I thought you mentioned this before on your Bournemouth video, but I suspect it's the same thing again. It won't advertise as going to London Paddington from Reading because there will be a quicker train to London Paddington coming up, but it's the next fastest train to Ealing Broadway.

i thought gwr got rid of all the 180 due to them being unreliable i did experience a ride on them about 2 year ago and found them extremely horrible vibrations thru out my ride so if you aint figure i cant stand the 180 lol

They are going to pass the 180 units onto Grand Central within the next few years. I've travelled on one previously and I thought that they were fantastic
