Trains at Sheffield - 02/04/2024

Filmed on 02/04/2024. So, here we are for another day where we will be covering stations in 3 out of 4 counties of South, West and East. Kicking things off with a few hours at the Steel City of true grit and Steal, yep welcome back to Sheffield (Season 11 Episode 5)
No major changes since our last visit but Cross Country has introduced a new 2 hourly service linking Newcastle to Reading via Doncaster and York. Maybe in the future, Cross Country Trains might bring back the 2 hourly link between Newcastle and Southampton Central making for hourly trains to Reading. In the recent news, in 2025 Cross Country Trains has recently announced they will be into more class 221 Super Voyagers. These could be from Avanti West Coast but will have to wait and see what will happen.
Things were tricky for an hour or so for East Midlands Railway due to a train failure and an issue with a signalling system but this didn't cause too many issues. Increase in compacity for the Norwich to Liverpool Lime Street services as now a pairing of 3 carriage class 170 Turbostar's are boosting to keep for the high demands linking Sheffield to Manchester and to Liverpool.
Since the withdrawal of the Nova 3 stock, Transpennine Express has been fully stretched with their class 185 fleet with near enough all 51 units in service. But, this does lead to short formed trains from 6 to 3 carriages which as seen, resulted in trains being full and standing. Do we think it was a good idea to withdraw the Nova 3's? Well, its debateable but lets hope for new investments in the near future.
