Trains at Stevenage, ECML (19/05/2023)

VIDEO: A two-and-a-bit hour filming session at Stevenage, on the East Coast Main Line, featuring London North Eastern Railway class 91+Mk4s, class 800s and class 801s, Great Northern class 387s and 717s, Thameslink class 700s, Grand Central class 180s, Hull Trains class 802s, Lumo class 803s, various freight trains and a ROG class 37 hauling a pair of ex-Stansted Express class 379s for storage.
The original Stevenage station was opened on 8 August 1850 by the Great Northern Railway company, initially with great hostility from the locals who feared it would cause the village's stagecoach businesses to decline, which turned out to be true. However, the station still opened.
In November 1946, Stevenage became the first designated "New Town" in the UK, a result of the New Towns Act 1946 which aimed to construct a ring of towns outside of the London greenbelt to alleviate housing shortages following World War II. The result of this was a new town centre being constructed however, this was situated nearly a mile south of the 1850 station, meaning it wasn't the most convenient.
On 22 July 1973, the original station was closed and replaced by the current station the following day, now situated only about 200 metres from the town centre.
Stevenage's layout consists of two island platforms with four tracks plus a bay platform on the western side of the station for terminating trains from Moorgate via the Hertford Loop.
