Video takes me back to my days as teenager "train spotting". In those days (dating myself) Thirsk had four platforms. Trains did occasional stop on the up or down main line. Goods trains were loose coupled goods wagons and we saw "real" trains (locomotive and carriages). Modern locomotives were the Deltic with the occasional steam hauled trains, most goods trains but also on passenger. The modern railway maybe cleaner and faster, but the romance of the railway has gone. All the trains look alike whether it be a stopper between Newcastle and York, or an express from Newcastle to Kings Cross. I know, progress!
