This is a compilation video of clips of Class 47s hauling passenger trains between 1987 and 2014, although there is a gap between 1990 and 2006.
The clips are in class number order, and have already featured on the channel under their respective date/ location videos.
[All photos used in the opening sequence and the background music were taken/ written/ played by me.]

Class 47s are an excellent loco. ex signaller I was called in to work a box because of WCML diversions over S&C line . The sleeper left Preston with the electric loco still attached, hauled by two 47s. When it arrived at my box the driver reported one of the 47s was low on fuel. Control advised to detach the 47 and the remaining loco would haul the train over the S&C. One 47 hauling the sleeper stock plus the electric loco attached , that is some challenge , by the way it made the journey.

Excellent - dufftastic!! Those who followed 47s were really spoiled for choice. They always appeared to be more exciting in Scotland, not sure why…possibly driving style, scenery, liveries or combination of all these?

Maybe it was the addition of the Scotty Dog logo on the side!

@@OldOakTrains Certainly the Scots kept their locos in far better condition I think. Both Crewe and Bescot had big allocations of 47s in the 80s, their locos were generally tatty and neglected. Growing up in the midlands the occasional Stratford or Scottish 47 stuck out next to them like a sore thumb. Western locos tended to be better cared for then, but less so by the final years of loco-hauled Padington-Oxfords in the early 90s (as your video shows).

Marvellous stuff! Corrie would love this as she drove loads of these!! Coincidently, the last shot in this vid, 28/6/14, is the day before i done my regular pirate radio show and found out my craziest ever listener was a train driver. Later on my mate said "she wanted u to know specifically, its locos she drives ;)" lol. The rest was a (brief) bit of history as they say. . . She was impressed i could give all the livery histories of just about every class 47 in her driving them days . . . Nice uploads man, keep em coming, no matter how much it hertz lol.

Thanks for commenting, enjoyed putting this compilation together more than I was expecting- quite a lot of variety amongst the 47s actually, although usually dismissed as “all the same”. cheers Geoff.
