Thanks Keith. Yes, like you I have many happy memories of Reading (as evidenced by my other videos on the channel), and would probably still be going there if we hadn’t moved away from London. All shots in this particular video were filmed on my father-in-law’s Panasonic VHS video camera - the sort that was a separate camera and recorder connected by a cable! You can just see me in the left hand corner of the thumbnail with the tripod, and my brother-in-law and missus are seen in the actual video at West Drayton leaping out of the way! As you say, not bad quality for the period, but I noticed a massive improvement when I bought my own Sony Video 8 camcorder the following March. Thanks for watching and commenting……Geoff.

Seeing Reading like that reminds me of being a little boy at the station. Loved all the different locos we used to get here, nice to see 59001 which I still see go through Reading in 2024.

That’s cool; I’d have never thought 59 001 would still be going now when I first saw it back in the ‘80s. Glad my video brought back memories, thanks for watching and commenting 👍😊

50034 & 50035 are on the last Newquay BR additional tour that day at West Drayton. I think it was a tour advertised by BR in Rail for booking in advance.

Thanks for that. Of course, in those days, no internet, so not possible to find out. Cheers Geoff .

I am guessing the Cardiff based unit was re-allocated to Old Oak would be the only reason its on an OC diagram?

@@Thunderer0872 Would have been Reading, not Old Oak. Not sure Old Oak had any DMU's allocated? Apart from HST's of course!
