During World War II . . . . . . . The Pennsylvania railroad wanted to build their own larger engine because freight shipments had drastically increased and their engine roster was strained to the limit . . .. .
However due to wartime restrictions Pennsylvania railroad was not allowed to spend any money on research and development of a new engine . . . . . . . ..
So to get around this problem they decided to lease two engines . . . . . . .. Test them . . . . . . And copy one of their designs . . . .. . . which was the C&O T1
However this is where the story gets very sketchy . . . . . . . and remains unproven . . . . . . Rumours persist that they also built one version of their own of the Norfolk & Western A Class . . . . then known as the PRR FG-1 2-6-6-4 it was then revealed . . . and the project was stopped by the US Government
The recent discovery of old glass negative black & white photos and an even rarer 16 mm film of the one and only testing of the locomotive . . . . . but it is still denied and claimed as fake evidence by all parties . . . . . .
Here is the TRUE story . . . . . . .

Expertly crafted video Collins Trains, you've earned yourself a new subscriber! Makes me wish the FG-1 was a real locomotive . . . Or was it?🤔

It was a fun video . . could have been an April Fools Video . . but I could not wait that long . . . . . . . . I had a quick look at your channel . . . .looking good . . . I wish I was able to visit the preservations railroads in your country . . .Western Marylands was up the list . . . . .. . But sadly I am too far away !

Amazing video from you Colin. I was entertained the entire time. Love how you came up with a story for the FG-1 to also show off some progress on the P&O. It was a different type of review from what you did with the Western Maryland locomotives, but I think I like this a bit better.

Very well put together fictional story, Colin! If it really did come to for wishin', this probably would be it's story!

Any hope that this was a true story was dashed when the purportedly 16-mm film was clearly a simulation due to the background being a digital product rather than real-life.

This was an interesting way to show off the PRR FG-1. All in all, I think you did a pretty good job. I enjoyed watching this. Also, I see that you visited (and used info from) steamlocomotive.com. Very nice touch. There is one thing I wanted to point out. Simple articulateds and mallets are two completely different things. Mallets use their steam twice before it exhausts through the smokestack (first at high pressure in the back cylinders which is then used in the front cylinders at low pressure). Simple articulateds use their steam once in all 4 cylinders before it exhausts through the smokestack. Just letting you know.

Thanks for your feedback . . . . . . . . . On your final point . . . . .I was in such a rush to get it done . . . . . I think I got mixed up along the way . . . my bad . . . . . . . . Have you seen the promo from K&L trains on this? . . . . . . . I think the voiceovers there are much more professional . . . . . . . . it is a good piece of work . . . . . . . . . . although a purist would also find some minor errors if they look hard . . . I discussed it with the author but he was able to justify them . . . .. . . . . .

I did see the K&L Trainz promo. In fact, I saw it the day it was uploaded. I'm not trying to say that K&L Trainz does everything perfectly. Even Pentrex can make a mistake every now and again. I was just pointing out the difference between a simple articulated and a mallet because I have heard quite a few people make that mistake, and I'm also quick to correct it. It is never anything personal. I'm just making sure that the difference between the two is known.

Great work creating the locomotive that might have been. Here are some other PRR what-ifs I'd like to see some day, somewhere, somehow: Class R2 Northern. The R2 would basically be a T1 without the duplex divided drive, but including the T1 late-model (reduced) streamlining (Note: class R1 was an electric locomotive, so this class has to be designated R2, or maybe T2). An R2/T2 would need larger cylinders than the T1--cylinders like on the Great Northern S2. Class U1, a Berkshire type (Berkshires are my favorite type of loco, but PRR , my favorite railroad, had no Berkshires, ever). The U1 would have the appearance of a "baby J." The tender would be like the ones on the M1b locomotives. Other possibilities are these: Class GG2.--this would be a Pennsified Challenger, with 16-wheel tender instead of the centipede, a proper Belpaire firebox, and a skyline casing like the Q2. Class M2--a streamlined M1 Mountain. Class G6--a streamlined G5 Ten-wheeler. Class J2--a J1 Texas having a proper Belpaire firebox. Class FG2--an FG1 having a Belpaire firebox.

Hello Robert . . . you have indeed put a lot of thinking into this . . . .. . . probably the best group to do this is K&L Trains . . . . . . . as they did the FG-1 . . . .I have passed on your ideas and will let you know if I get any positive response. Thanks for taking the time to ,let me know of your ideas . . . you never know what can happen . . . .

Robert I just noticed your comment on the FG-1 firebox . . although subtle the FG-1 already has a Belpaire firebox . . just somewhat hidden by a lower curved casing . . . . . .have a close look . . . . . Funny enough . . .. I also said to K&L I thought it did not look like a traditional Belpaire firebox . . . . . . ..
