Trakai Island Castle is a historic fortress located on an island in Lake Galve, near the town of Trakai in Lithuania. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in Lithuania and a significant cultural and historical site in the region. The castle was constructed in the 14th century by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and served as a strategic defense point against invasions from the Teutonic Order and other adversaries.
Built in a Gothic style with elements of Renaissance architecture, Trakai Island Castle is characterized by its red-brick walls, towers, and picturesque setting on the lake. It consists of several interconnected buildings, including a massive main keep and defensive walls. The construction of the castle began in the 14th century by Kestutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in this castle in 1430.
