Thanks for the reply. I am a retired truck driver that lived by my cb all day every day. I drove thru upstate NY and all thru the north east every week. I used a Galaxy 929 that had been set up with dual finals. The ant was a browning 88 that did very well. It was a life saver hearing knowing about icy roads or blocked lanes. Getting ready do set up a base for my home using the radio and ant or maybe going to 102". Low budget here on fixed income but want to get back in the game. NW Ohio here .

That is some great results my friend, because you did it exactly right by grounding your whole truck together. Most folks won't bother, or don't know, any wonder why they don't get good reception, or transmission from their rig.

on a pick-up truck it seems to be needed,..... I've seen guys put the Tram 3500 on a car with a subframe and get great results.... the subframe is bolted directly to the body.... those cars just stick the Tram 3500 on it and get 18 miles range!!! just amazing! this is the guy that got 18 miles on a tiny trunk lid using a 4 watt radio.... that is certainly impressive! kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3iVpJmhmJJ8qc0

on a CAR with Unibody RF Bonding is unneeded ... but on a pick up truck.... you can see it for yourself the CAB and the BED don't actually touch each other...... they both sit on big rubber body mounts with a small bolt holding it down... but the bolts will not allow the Ground Plane to flow... my truck is now like a light bulb , radiating the signal out in all directions when I key my mic... I would ALWAYS ground the hood to the firewall... the hood is the 2nd largest area to reflect the signal... and most hoods are only connected by four small bolts and they don't allow for a good ground plane...... good luck!!!!

What's not to like ? It's fantastic your 1st YT video is a great video film . Wish mine was as good. Obviously after reading the comments i understand you got a A99 as base at good height. I think you got a good / m station not sure all that strapping was necessary? But the proof of the pudding was in the eating . I remember doing similar testing 40 years ago , it was great fun . Very 73 and greetings from Scotland.

it's been a great antenna for me. over 18 months so far..... the top antennas are the Sirio Performer 5000.... ( almost 7 feet tall, so too tall for me) and the Stryker SAR-10 ...I hate the foolish blue lights that light up when you transmit.....and it just looks really ugly to me... it is also 6.5 feet tall!!!!! again not for me.... the Tram 3500 is 57 inches tall it doesn't look terrible and is CHEAP compared to the other two.... and it works GREAT!!! after you get it, do a range test and let us know how it worked for you! good luck

I just received my Tram 3500 in the mail today, I am going to be running it with a Galaxy DX959B. I've heard very good things about them and from what I understand they're good for 18-20 something miles with ideal conditions. Can't wait to get it set up in my Honda!

Looks nice! You could also use those suction cups with 3D printer parts. Lido mounts have a variety of mounts for hamradio which also work with cb. 73

Was wondering what 3D Prints are you talking about. I have an Ender3Pro & I have been on the CB for over 20yrs. I’d like to try some different prints with this Printer. Thanks. 297RI waving. Great Range Test too.

Came up in my recommendations good video. Your accent is similar to mine I’m from Massachusetts. I had the same mobile antenna on my Camry

I have an accent??? I don't hear it... thank you for the good video comment..... that Tram 3500 is a pretty good Antenna. I have talked 20 plus miles on AM many times... my next video will be for 20 miles to see what it can do. how did the cb work on your Camery?

I enjoyed the video. I was curious as to what antenna and how high at your base.
@steve_niceguy7 ай бұрын
glad you enjoyed it... it didn't come out the way I wanted, but it was just a practice run for my 20 mile test. my base antenna is a Antron 99 with ground plane kit mounted on a 31 foot pole so 48 feet to the tip... that will be a good video for another day

How many watts is that President putting out? Nice video.
@steve_niceguy3 ай бұрын
I bought That President Grant Export Brand NEW in 1989 ( 480 channels!) I've had it in every 4X4 I've ever had... it's never needed a repair........ from the Factory it say's it puts out 10 watts AM / FM and 25 watts on SideBand.... it has an incredible swing on AM, it swings up to 25 to 30 watts!........... I bought an Anytone 5555 N II to replace it as I can sell the Grant on e-bay for a lot more than what I paid for the 5555 N II ... but I never get around to replacing it so the 5555 N II is sitting on the shelf for the last year.

glad you liked it. I wanted to go out 20 miles and will on the next one and remake this a lot better..... my 1989 President Grant Export, that I bought new, came factory with 10 watts AM/FM and 25 watts on SSB ..... I had it clipped and peaked in 1989. on my digital watt meter it seems to put out 11 watts on AM/FM and 27 watts on SSB.

Ford Trucks and all other Trucks have grounding straps or they will not run now Ford trucks are made from Galvalum which is galvanized aluminum,instead of using a magmount on them post mount it to the frame

my base antenna (Antron 99 with ground plane kit and grounded correctly) is 50 feet to the tip and my house is built on the top of a small hill.... but I typically can use my mobile CB to talk to base stations 20 to 25 miles away in all directions ( most days).... I have also talked to other mobile CB users that have had the Tram 3500... Wilson 1000 or Stryker AR10 antennas 15 to 20 miles away....mobiles that have firesticks or antenna's on pick-up tool boxes or on pick up bed rails I'm lucky to hear them from a couple miles away they hear me 10 plus miles away..... my area is pretty flat.. I am 8 miles from the ocean ... I have a lot of forests around me that I seem to be able to talk over.... my Tram 3500 antenna is 5 feet tall and it's on the top of my 6 foot tall pick up truck.... so it's 11 feet in the air.... but if you search Tram 3500 on youtube you will see another guy that has a Tram 3500 that gets 18.5 miles range! and he lives in the mountains.... I've chatted with him and his 18 mile drive goes into valleys, cities, forests, under power lines VERY IMPRESSIVE..... I plan to do another test and go out 20 miles and I think I'll be able to hear it on my base.
