Glad I ran into this video that explains what I'm experiencing with my 69 Mustang. The tires that came with it is 225-60-15 so it's probably not too wide but not stock. I'll check tire pressure to make sure I'm not over inflating them. Thanks!

Awesome video, just took my Pandem R32 out for its first longer trip and was paranoid the whole time because of the odd pulling it was feeling. Had me constantly pulling over to check the steering and suspension components.

I just brought this up to one of the people at Discount Tire and they had no idea what tramlining is. I asked them before I saw this video, I knew my car was doing it. Just not sure why. Thanks for the great explanation! He did say my tires and/or wheels are the wrong size for my car. (This is how I bought it from a Ford dealership and probably another reason I'm never going back)

Thanks! I switched my wheels and tires and experienced this. My new tires were wider than OEM, Lower Profile than OEM, also I found my tire pressures were too high, and I have a ton of tread left. So.. all of the above. I'll fix the air pressure and see how that works.

Thanks for the video, really really helpful. Just changed the wheel and tyre combo on my Volvo C30 to more sport type wheel, larger rim, wider tyre profile. Thought I stuffed my car up experienced this onc before driving a friend's sports van with a wider tyre profile. Stay safe and well, from Dean in the United Kingdom.

what if my REAR suspension is shifting left and right? This happens when I'm going STRAIGHT on the freeway at high speeds on a SMOOTH road. Very odd. I bought all new suspension parts except my shocks and springs aren't the greatest quality. Alignment is supposed correct (checked multiple times and it never changes). Brand new tires, all seasons that are NOT wide. Tire pressure a bit high, will try to lower. Any other causes? Maybe my rear sway bar snapped? I'm getting way more understeer on high speed turns than before.

I recently had a horribly scary experience with tramlining after purchasing new tires from Discount Tire. I went back and told them about it and was told by them, never heard of it, it doesn’t exist, they wouldn’t even look it up. Tire people should know about this I would think.

Under inflated runflats are notorious for tramlining especially low profile wide variants. Pressures both high and low do play a part. It’s nature of the tyre setup. If tracking correct and steering rack/suspension “play” acceptable and tyres reasonably new, the only option left is to fit firmer bushings to control arms etc. You want that sporty car… learn to live with it.

Does stiffer suspension help reduce it or softer suspension? Combined with softer psi. I have falken all terrain 285 65 18 on stock rims and my steering is moving a bit more than when stock tires. My side door recom psi is 29 when i tried 33 psi front i felt the tramline a bit more i guess. So im trying to go down 29 again with softer damp Or harder damP on my shox? What combo is better?

I'm not an expert on suspension, but I would say it's probably the tires. I know the run-flats are the worst.

So why do you get more tramlining if you have more tyre tread? I thought it would be the opposite if you had less? I just put new 245 yokohomas on my rear for my BMW and I did notice a lot more than when my tires were bald...so I'm not discrediting you, just wanted to know why?

Chaz Peña CHAZ - Perhaps I explained it wrong. I didn't mean deeper tread, I meant wider tread. The wider the tire, the more susceptible it is to tramlining. Is that a little clearer?

Just put on my 22' wheels (305/40r22) since all the snow has melted here in alaska. Im 16 and Its my first year driving my truck so i dont have any experience with with wide wheels, and jesus christ is it bad, hopefully i get used to it🤷🏼‍♂️

I have 265/70/16 on a 2001 4Runner. Tires are new firestone's. Really bad tramlining on grooved interstate at over 60 mph. Scary. Psi recommended at 32 for truck. Doesn't do it on regular blacktop at high speeds. Hoping to wear out the tires more but they're rated at 70000 miles

I feel your frustration. The only thing I can suggest is to check your tire pressure. I've found that the "run flat" tires are the worst offenders.

My car does this and i HATE it.... if my max psi is 49.... what air pressure should i set it at? 40?? Maybe lower??

I would probably set it close to the recommended air pressure. How wide are your tires?

@@MagnumVideos ok so i have a 2011 charger, i have after market 20 inch wheels and they are staggered. The wheels and tires are the same size as the factory models that have the upgraded wheel package though. When i first had them put on it drove perfect. A year later i took it in for a alignment and a balance to do some preventative maintenance. Also i had a wearing shock replaced... NOW its Tramlining.... i took it in for an alignment check and the back was out of place so they did another alignment (3 months after already having one) but on a certain road it still Tramlines bad..... and it did not use to do this on that road before, idk what to do

I'm not sure, but the oversized wheels might be part of the problem. However, if you only have the issue on that particular road, it may be completely normal and the road may just have really bad grooves or ruts in it. If you have really wide tires, like I had on my Corvette, you may experience the issue a lot more. Maybe someone else can chime in with another opinion.@@stephenmccurdy6619

my new dog has hidden my reading glasses and i had to buy another pair at least if i stepped on them i would know where they are lol i loved it when she asked if they where on your head but i know she meant did they fall off your head any way i have experienced tramlining before, i could drive down the freeway for about a mile with my hands off the wheel because my tire was following a seam in the road it drove my mom nuts when i did it but hey it was fun
