Very interesting! I would like to read his book. My g-g-g-g-grandfather may have traveled to Texas on this road. He was friends with Sam Houston and served as Attorney General and Indian Commissioner for the Republic.

I'm going to track down this book. We've hiked various sections of the El Camino Real but this is the route my family took to get into Texas from Tennessee.

This book is interesting. My family came to Texas in 1822 from Kentucky and settled in modern day Freestone County

I have walked on it in Bowie County. On Public Lands. You can feel the spirit of the early Indians, The Spaniard's, The French, The First Texas Settlers , The The Civil War and Union Troops. . He is correct when he says you feel the reverence. I also have walked on Spanish Trace . Another Trammel created corridor. Proud to be a Rut Nut.

As a native Texan, to learn more about our history is really great. Thank you, Mr. Pinkerton for caring. P.S. Any relationship to the "Pinkertons"

I grew up in Maud Tx. I've walked that trail no telling how many times. Growing up hunting, I always thought it was only logging railways that had been abandoned. I actually bow hunt within walking distance of where Epperson's Ferry was. Camped there many times back in High School.

A family ancestor of my Grandfather died at the Alamo and his name is on the large epitaph monument at the Alamo. His name was Burke Trammell.

How did they know where to put a trail through there that would lead to Nacogdoches? They were very smart
@trammelstrace Жыл бұрын
Simply followed trails in existence for hundreds of years, primarily Caddo trading trails.

As soon as I saw the word Trammel my immediate thought went to the little hole in the wall diner in Bokeelia, Florida. Best seafood platters in Florida. I don't know if it's still there since hurricane Ian flooded everything but the Calosa Indian Middens or as known locally as the Mounds out in Pineland. Everything else is 2 ft. below mean sea level, but it's all above water level in the area. Trammell Restaurant is/was the place to find out all the latest island gossip over a fantastic cup of coffee. There was a joke on the island when I was a teen that goes something like this "If you fart in St. James City then by the time that gossip got to Bokeelia they were asking the name of the person you killed". It's a small population of maaaaybe 3,000 year round residents to past 10,000 during "season", from Nov. 1 to April 15th. Those of the seasonal trade workers had to make a years worth of income from seasons beginning to April 1st. or you just didn't survive the summer months.
