Nice work Steve. Glad to see you looking after your customers best interests like usual. I would have been tempted to check the static. I'm guessing it's well over 1" wc. I know she wouldn't downsize a working unit. People think the big box stores will save them cash but a reputable tech will save them more. BTW you do a great job with your video edits. Love the stuff you show (carpet,stair climber chair). Very informative and entertaining.

@normanfields63718 жыл бұрын
Rule from 500 ft.² per Ton so you are correct in saying approximate 2 1/2 ton also the return drop on the furnace had a open return vent against code because of propane water heater can pull carbon monoxide through the house also propane is heavy so it can lay close to the ground. Good job on the motor replacement

Great video as always -- but had you considered using an ECM drop-in replacement for the broken OEM fan motor, like the Rescue Ecotech/Eco Apex outdoor fan motor or the Genteq Evergreen OM motor? These repairs are a good time to switch out an old PSC motor and the Ecotech and Evergreen are usually much cheaper than any OEM Trane two-speed motor, plus the ECM will save the customer a good amount of electricity in the future (if she keeps the system and doesn't downsize to a 2-ton like you recommended). Plus an ECM would eliminate the fan capacitor in the condenser, avoiding future capacitor maintenance. ECM motor availability and time could always be a negative factor, however....

Damn lav another over sizeed system. We oversize by half a ton but im in Louisiana where in the summer time it gets to 110 heat index and 90-100% humidity. We dont really have winters either, usually in thr 60's with some cool fronts in the 20-30's and that last about 3 months. So we run a/c about 9 months of the year

If the white and the brown with white stripe wire are both common or the same, like you mentioned. Black wire is on T1, So can you put the wire brown with white strip on the on T2 instead of placing it on the Common of the capacitor like you did? Thank You

Good video, Thanks! I have a 12 year old 5 ton Trane heat pump and it was making a lot of noise. Like the noise yours just made. I went outside and the fan wasnt turning. It hasnt has a capacitor replaced so i put a new one in. It came on and ran ok but the fan sounded like it was wobbling. i tried again tonight and the fan was turning real slow and had a loud humming sound so I guess it needs a motor too. What do you think?
@bradranks6284 жыл бұрын
I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying anything by the Trane brand. Here's why: I purchased 2 new systems from them thinking I was getting "better equipment", but that could not be further from the truth. Keep in mind that I live in Arizona where the temps are 115º plus. Now, the first issue is that one of the 2 units went out immediately. It broke when I was out of town forcing the heater to run indefinitely, even though it was set to cool only. As it turns out, they cover all of their wring with peanut oil!?? Well guess what, mice LOVE peanut oil and they were attracted to that lovely taste (probably why we set traps with peanut butter and it works so well). This to me is just simply a bad business decision. Needless to say, everything in our room melted as the temperature was kept above 118 for 3 days straight, while we were gone. Now none of our drawers close correctly, our doors do not shut right and all of the oil in our wood furniture is gone. On to #2! Oh, Keep in mind, these are less than 1 year old! I am still paying $20,000.00 for these two "lovely" babies!! This time the coil went out, causing us to live in the peak AZ heat for almost a week. I was told that this is uncommon for any brand. I guess we are just lucky. #3 This time the control module went out in the air handler! I was told this never happens unless it is just a bad unit... Again, I guess I am just lucky. #4 This time the Thermostat broke. This is their proprietary thermostat, so their own technology on that thing. Good luck with these things, they have some convoluted method of resetting and joining the network or adopting to your account that is a real treat. #5 Did I mention that I still have a good year or more to go on my payments for these gems!!! Now, the coil went out and leaked out all of the refrigerant. back to 100º in our house! They said it would be at least a week before they could get the part to me (which I thought was a bit long for such a well know brand with distribution) so I wrote them a letter on their website asking why Amazon can get me anything I need in 2 hours, but they take a week, even though they are installing hundreds of these daily, in my city. I also asked is this the type of "QUALITY" that I should expect from my purchase decision to go with them? Guess what I received back in response to that letter? Well, if you guessed NOTHING, you would be correct. Par for the course here with Trane. #6 The vents and 2 stage motor never really seemed to be very productive, so I called my dealer locally and asked them to investigate. They found that this unit was shipped with malformed flashing on the air handler and it was blocking 80% of the air flow. He trimmed it out and got it back to normal. So, again, I write another letter to Trane on their website asking if this is something that should be replaced or if it is common and again asked if this is the "Quality" I should expect from their brand. My Answer? Ding Ding Ding, if you guessed NOTHING again! #7 Still waiting on my coil to be delivered after 2 weeks and the installer just called to tell me that Trane sent the wrong coil, so we will need to reorder it from them, AGAIN, and I need to wait. So, moral of the story? If you want really bad quality, tons of headaches, appointments, ruined furniture and pay at least 4 times as much as other brands, you should absolutely buy Trane. Or if you simply want the indoors of your house to be like this, then you should also buy Trane! Otherwise buy ANYTHING ELSE.
@Garth2011 Жыл бұрын
Contacting Trane direct by telephone would have been the better method for questions or complaints. Your installer also might have some delay when parts are being ordered and shipped in a fair time. Sending the wrong coil part is a big bummer. Then, I would have mailed a letter to them and lodged a complaint about defective hardware and poor quality right from their production lines.

ac is probably just as oversized as the heating system. "hvac" technicians ask me what a manual j is every so often. I just shake my head and laugh at them. Ask them if they're serious and then proceed to tell them they should find a new job if they don't know what or how to do one. Pretty sad stuff. The time will come when manual j is required on EVERYTHING not just new construction, that should weed out a bunch of the competitors.

That was a 2 speed fan motor in that trane unit, So was that also a 2 stage condenser or a single stage condensor.
@airprok83287 жыл бұрын
I believe the 2 speed motor runs on ambient temperature, depending on temperature, that determines the speed the motor runs by using the switch he eliminated. The rescue motor did not need that control switch to run.

Few HVAC techs use factory branded motors on condensers. I don't agree with them doing that without telling me the reason why and price difference. Steve did mention he did that because it was a week to wait for the OEM motor. Typical....high priced parts and a long wait while the cheaper ones prevail in availability. I blame the warehouses for not having the good stuff in stock.

I would say yes that unit is to much for that house. Our house we just bought has a unit that is to much for this house ours is a 3.5 ton. My filter is a 20x20 I have only 8 floor vents, should have been a 2.5 or a 3 ton.
