Hey guys ! Arnold from Brazil here. NICE BOAT NAME ! I am in the early stages of a probably 10 years planning and saving to go sailing with my daughter (3) and wife. You guys give us inspiration ! WIsh you guys great and safe sail around the world. TIP: Buy a "boom" for your camera mic to avoid the blowing of the wind sound and a camera stabilizer. It will make you videos way more beautiful ! Keep them coming !

Hi Guys! I found your channel today and subscribed immediately. Can't wait to follow your journey. I am refitting a 35 year old boat to do some solo sailing myself, but have about a years worth of work left to do before I can get underway.I saw you were unpacking your jack stays lines and would like to offer one piece of advice that you can take or leave. If you run one down each side of the boat it leaves you open to the possibility of going overboard and being dragged in the water along the hull possibly being drowned or in my case unable to get back aboard. If you run one up the center line of the boat and make sure your lines that clip into it are only long enough to let you go to the edge of the boat, you'll never go over board. You may be knocked to your feet but you'll still be onboard and much safer. In a squall late at night someone might be hard pressed to hear you in the water calling for help. Although it was always my rule never to leave the cockpit at night unless there was at least one other person in the cockpit watching. Especially in rough weather! Good luck and God Bless, hope all your weather is good and you don't have to worry about such things but it's good to be prepared. Good luck. Couple of tips, folding water jugs don't last in the sun. cover or below decks. Pick up an impact driver to go with the drill. Tool of 1000 uses.

GPS, AIS, Autopilot, sonar, watermaker, dual B and G setups, battery monitors and electric winches, yep, that's "keeping it simple". I'd hate to see what not keeping it simple looks like. That little bit of snark aside, I still liked, commented and subscribed.

No watermaker, don't think they're reliable enough; GPS, AIS, autopilot and dual B&G come standard... we would have been happy to have just the one B&G but Hanse is very inflexible. Sonar will be useful for the atolls of the Pacific. Yes battery monitor was in addition, but useful to know what we're consuming. Electric winches were probably the one thing we didn't need, but as we're selling Tranquilo eventually, the market we're selling in to would expect them.... and great you liked it!

No, I get it. I know you're sometimes just filling video/blog space but when you mindlessly say things like "We're not rich." or "We're keeping it simple" It comes off as false because while it's not a crewed 90 foot swan, this is luxury cruising with most of the modern amenities and a level of freedom that's unimaginable to most working folks in your country and mine. It's a small quibble, your family seem lovely and your channel over the first 3 episodes is a nice mix of travelogue and sailing stuff and nicely short on narcissistic face pulling. I'm planning to stay tuned in. I like the boy and how he says what he thinks. One day he'll understand the gift you're giving him.

I'm excited as a new subscriber to watch your journey and growth. Without asking what you paid... what would one expect to pay for a similar boat --- including the prep and add-on's for the boat?

If you do a search for a Hanse 455 price list on google, you should be able to find a price list from one of the dealers. Note the price increases around 3% June each year, so make sure you get a recent one. Then expect to pay 10-15% on top of this for fit out to make sure she is equipped for ocean crossings. If you want more info let us know.

Hi Robert, it took around two years to settle on which yacht to buy, but once we'd decided, it took us only two months to settle. This was in July 2016. The yacht was then manufactured and completed late January 2017, then trucked to Portoroz, Slovenia in late March, where it underwent commissioning. We finalised commissioning and did the handover early May. Hope this helps! Fil

The Australian Distance Education system is a highly structured homeschooling format, where the kids are sent the work they need to complete for the semester. It's fantastic as the parents don't need to come up with the teaching materials!

We took our personal belongings with us on the plane across - mainly clothing. The rest we bought online through European websites - online chandleries for marine equipment like pilot books, courtesy flags, and Amazon for cutlery, sheets, and so on. For expensive items like our Rocna anchor, we were able to buy they tax-free and organised a local Slovenian customs agent to provide the paperwork we needed to provide the retailers and Slovenian customs.

OK to be fair, there's both good & bad. Bad influence: he abandoned the round-the-world race to keep circling the globe... something that Fil jokes about doing, even though we'll eventually need to sell Tranquilo and start jobs again in Australia, send Aiden back to school etc. Moitessier also left behind his wife and kids in France and hooked up with a woman in Tahiti... Good influence: he was an environmentalist who campaigned against nuclear weapons, did naked yoga on deck, and apparently said "the idea of a race makes we want to vomit" (I agree, it really isn't about racing at all). What do you reckon?
