There was an older lady in my office who knew shorthand - it looked like magic to me! She could type like this, too. Very skillful.

As a secretary, I love watching these and seeing how they used to do it back in the day, what aspects are still quite similar, etc. I doubt they ever told their bosses to eff off like I do to my fee earner 😂 Ooh just noticed the letters are dated my birthday 🎉

Secretaries had to do it this way for years until the mid-80s when wordprocessing was introduced.

Interestingly, this film's script is similar to that of a 1950s one on transcribing. I wonder why.

The typewriters here are IBM Executives, not the more expensive Selectric. Selectrics used a type ball and were carriageless.

Are you talking about the object to the left of Sally's head? If so then thats a double stacked tray with the bottom feed ramp extended.

I'm sure there were trans people before the dawn of time. Which is fine it's just that's the way it is people are wired that way from birth it's not a phase for something fun.
