Could you do Leo Ps Finesse or Patience? That would be greatly appreciated!

This solo is pretty close to the original solo played by the Basie band, this piece is originally a Basie piece: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6SYnZpofshridE I don't know but Joan's teaching method would have Alba transcribe this solo herself-----pretty good at 9 or 10 years old!

From what I know of Joan's method, he seeks to introduce kids to the language of jazz through solos by the great jazz musicians. I guess Alba would transcribe the solo to later play it at the concert

I know this comment might make quite a few people mad, but… I am ALL in on teaching young kids how to play jazz. I’m even ok, though not QUITE so keen, on mutes at this age. But I don’t know a single brass teacher that would allow anyone, regardless of age (but especially the young) let a student play trumpet before they’ve mastered a pure, centered, full tone, with control in the complete tessitura at least, on the cornet first.

There are no rules. It's so weird to not allow someone to play the instrument that they want to play out of some arbitrary rule that they must master those parameters first, and to forbid the use of a mute because of age.

@@sc9604 BullS***. Any decent music teacher will make sure aa student has a good sound before allowing them to move up in the difficulty of the instrumentation. That’s why most junior high schools (at least in America) have dozens of cornets that they loan to the students first. When they are ready to move to the trumpet, they either loan them one of those or help the family choose a suitable instrument that fits their budget.

The original Basie band solo was muted------this is where it came from. See my other comment, above,

@@alanlevin3003 I didn’t say the transcription was wrong, I said I question the pedagogy of a “9 or 10 year old” being allowed to use one until… see MY original comment, above.

solo sounds good to me, who cares. maybe if it was obvious she was inexperienced or had no control of the instrument then i would agree, but she clearly knows what she’s doing, even as young as she is. there isn’t a set way that you have to learn music, and she seems to be doing a fine job.
