A transducer is a device that converts one form of energy into another form of energy by the principle of transduction.
A transducer is made of two main parts
The sensing unit or sensor
The signal conditioning unit or transduction.
The characteristics of a transducer are divided into two groups. They are;
Static characteristics
Dynamic characteristics.
Static characteristics are those characteristics that are not a function of time, they include accuracy, sensitivity, repeatability, linearity, stability, robustness, and size.
Dynamic characteristics are those characteristics that are functions of time, they include error, speed of the transducers, efficiency of the transducers, hysteresis
Classification of transducers based on the source of power are of two types;
Active transducers and passive transducers.
Active transducers do not require an external power source for it to work.
Passive transducers use the exterior power supply for the conversion of energy.
There are two different types of transducers
Mechanical transducers
Electrical transducers.
Mechanical transducers include; Pressure transducers, ultrasonic transducers, flow transducers, displacement transducers, temperature transducers, strain gauge transducers, acceleration transducers, and inductive transducers.
Electrical transducers Include a piezoelectric transducers, photovoltaic transducers, thermoelectric transducers, Hall effect transducers, photoconductor transducers, electromagnetic induction transducers, and electrostatic transducers.
