Ok that tells me how my transfer case works very clearly. So this weekend when I put it into 4 low or 4 high with everything working ,hubs locked ,shafts no longer free, and I got stuck because between the transfer case and the front shaft something is no longer connected? 4 low or high only on the back end? No noise and it was working last in February.

So 11 months ago I was checking the 4x4 while parked at the bottom of a slope assuming that my locking hub were indeed working and I had to get towed 45 feet to get traction . Turns out that one hub just would not engage . After buying new hubs i found this video that explains everything you need to fix your hubs in the wilderness if need be! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWibg558ZtKIhac Could have saved me hundreds if I had known at the time.

Why when you engage four wheel gear the front wheel keep on sliding?

I fixed the buzzing sound and loss of drive to wheels. there is a shifting fork that gets sloppy. I did this on the truck. ?? a long time ago. I opened the transfer case pushed the shift collar into high range put welds on the shaft so it couldn't disengage. I lost a lot of sleep not having low range. I bought beer with all the money I saved 1999------------2018- still buying beer

how can the PTO operate and not have torque delivered to the rear and or front wheel drive axle assemblies.
@chrispickle79483 ай бұрын
The PTO is engaged to the transmission either manually or with a button/ switch and with the transfer case in Neutral the drive wheels are disengaged from the transmission and the power goes to the PTO and transmission still, the transfer case in this video "transfers" power to the front and rear drive axles but when in Neutral it doesn't transfer the power to those drive axles but instead the PTO is engaged to the transmission to run that accessory off the engine without the vehicle needing to be in gear but instead just driven off the transmission, it's similar to when you put your car in N (if you have an automatic transmission), the engine is still running and the transmission is still being turned by the power of the engine, it just isn't transmitting that power to drive the vehicle but rather the PTO, I hope this helps :).

how is it possible to shift the gears without synchronizer since it has only dog teeth.
@EducationalMechanics6 жыл бұрын
Hi, generally you would be stationary when you shift from high to low ratio, which is why you have dog teeth. It's not like a range change on a truck which you would shift while moving. 🙂
@nobilitas166 жыл бұрын
newer ones you can switch while moving, they have synchronizers and electrically operated with a push of a button / knob. This video is probably for the older ones where you have to engage 4x4 by shifting like a manual transmission and find that "sweet spot" so you wont grind the gears. I had tried that on GMC trucks and i kept on grinding gears.
