Update - not sure why but this video has suddenly exploded! Bit of hindsight, I’d do the label first, rather than later, but it’s entirely up to you. Also, be careful not to use too much thinner, just enough to get the paint flowing. You can always add water too. Thanks for watching!

Interesting video, thank you. It doesn't matter quite what sequence you use re labels and balls and that device does look useful for setting aside and getting on with another task. Yes giving the paint a few minutes with a shaker device would help reduce thinner consumption during the process and speed it up some. I have well over a hundred GW paints and putting them into dropper bottles is a good idea but would take quite a long time. Still, I believe it extends the life of the paint so... Never a bad thing 😊 Thanks again, CHEERS!

I have an old plastic food storage container that has a crack up top where the lid goes and its no good for food but its great to wash the funnels and make an assembly line. I have transferred most of my paints now and I had a fairly significant GW paint collection. this little thing would be super handy though if I could get like 12 of them for cheap enough. That thinner makes a huge difference as I've tried this without using it and it does take a long time as you say. Doesn't adding thinner affect the paint though? Or does it not really matter seeing as Citadel paints need thinning before use anyway?

Nice method! Never knew that thing excisted? And life it soo short to keep using those damned pots.. only i used AK interactive's 17ml empty dropper bottles; same pots used with their latest 3th Gen paints... So much better thicker quality plastic than the flimsy cheap ebay/amazons bulk pots. Absolutely hate those, as you mentioned you can collapse them just by pressing the top too hard for example.. You should always stick the label first to the new pot and then start transferring... Saves allot of headache when things do go south regarding paint on your fingers! Furthermore same as you did, i mixed in some thinner/flow improver, but i just stuck the empty dropper bottle with some bluetac to my desk and then just poured all the paint in carefully. The funnel is a waste of money and effort, and paint eventually imo. Finally to get the last paint out of the pot, i just scoop it out there with a new fat cheap brush and run it into/over the opening of the dropper.

Hi, I gave these a go but had mixed results. Too little thinner and the funnel fills up but does not not decant. Too much and your paint is too thin. I suffered with the too thick scenario (and once committed it can very messy trying to recover so be warned). So for me I have settled with a couple 3d printed bottle holders and wider neck funnels which let the agitator ball drop through. I like to use the agitator to help the mix the paint ready for decanting, mixing the paint with a electric stirrer/paint shaker etc and all is well. This is not to say this is not a great product/idea, it just did not work out for me....

The reason I feel this product is unnecessary is because most people will transfer their paints ONCE. Because they will buy GW paints, realize what a pain they are to deal them, transfer them into droppers, grow smart and next time they buy Army Painter. Or Vallejo. Or other such brands that come in dropper bottles. People get into this hobby and they are tricked into buying overpriced Citadel paints, because it stands to reason that's what you gotta buy to paint your army. But there's actually not much difference in quality. And if you're talking contrast paints - Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 is actually SO MUCH BETTER than GW that you shouldn't even consider it. The only thing that GW has is washes. I like their washes, but those are OK to stay in pots. Everything else - you buy them once, you transfer them, and then you never want to deal with that ever again. And so I don't see myself buying a product for that.
@hobbywaffle
@hobbywaffle Жыл бұрын
That’s fair enough. You do have a point with some of the other brands and the ease of use. I’ve actually started to use Two Thin Coats paints by Duncan Rhodes as my main colours, but still use GW washes and Contrasts. The TTC paints are very good though, especially the metallics and they are in Dropper bottles :) I’ve just started experimenting with Speedpaint 2.0, but I’m wary as the early ones were a bit iffy with the re-activation.
@Aisaaax
@Aisaaax Жыл бұрын
@@hobbywaffle i honestly think that for every Citadel paint you can find an alternative that is the same quality or better - for a lower price. The thing is, Citadel paints are already expensive per ml tat you get. But then you also inevitably lose a good 5-7% of that volume, because it just dries up in the pot. And even if you transfer right away - there is likely a lot of paint lost during this process that you can't fully recover from the pot or the funnel etc. If you USE the pot - then likely you lose 10-15% of it just drying. So you think you have bought 12ml, when in reality you'll be able to use only 10-11 of it at best. Which makes that paint so expensive that alterbatives are just better in all regards. I actually felt taken advantage of when I realized this.

Not bad in itself, but also a bit unnecessarily. Pouring paint from pot A into pot B should be possible without tools. I also scrape out pots with a popsicle to avoid wasting as much as possible. However, in defence, I am a trained painter and used to working with paints of all kinds.

I did scrape out the pots off camera with a sculpting tool, as some of the thicker GW paints had quite a bit of excess in the pots, and didn’t want to keep adding thinner. This is extremely over complicated for what is a fairly simple task. The drop dripper contraption is completely redundant when you can just thin and pour the paint into dropper directly from the paint pot, you end up losing paint to the funnel, then you have to clean the funnel and set it all back up again for each paint. I did 34 paints in just over an hour. I would also not recommend using a thinner but a medium as this can affect pigment and fiscosity.

So GW paint pots are so bad that someone has made a product to change the container? Why are people still buying them?
@hobbywaffle
@hobbywaffle Жыл бұрын
People tend to stick to the brands they like, plus some GW paints are still really good and the range is huge. It’s just the design of the pot means it can trap paint and dry out 🙁

This is fantastic! Can the next video be about how to pour milk in a glass and then consume it? Maybe some bonus footage to demonstrate loading the consumed glass into one of those things….. oh yeah, a dishwasher. This is where we are as a species now folks!

Yep, but sadly GW paint doesn’t come in droppers and some hobbyists stick to GW paint only, so this is for them 👍

Yeah, I don’t think they ever would as they see their paint pot shape as standing out amongst rivals, but I really wish they would switch to droppers!

Here's a thought, just stop buying their paint, then maybe they'll bottle it properly. Not like anything they make will still be around in a year or two anyway. Remember enchanted blue? Mithril silver?

I still have some Enchanted Blue, managed to keep it from drying out 🙂

this is a nice way to do it, but if you pay 18 dollars for that dripper thing you're an idiot. you can find dozens of paint transferring products just like this one that you can 3d print for pennies. and if you don't have a printer you can find someone to do it for you for less than $18.

Unfortunately GW paint pots can make some of their paints go thick so I had no choice. Could always use water or medium I guess

@Hobby Waffle you still end up with a chemically different product at that point. If you're air brushing, it will work well. But for traditional brush users, it's bad. I think my workaround will be to use disposable pipettes rather than chemically change the paint.
@hobbywaffle
@hobbywaffle Жыл бұрын
@@Emann-yc7cv Yeah that’s not a bad idea, or maybe the syringe method? I’ve seen someone do that for transferring paints and it was only an issue on a a couple of really thick gloopy ones
@ashleywhitehead3710
@ashleywhitehead3710 Жыл бұрын
How exactly are you chemically changing the paint? Every thing in the thinner is already in the paint. Otherwise you could use a 20mml syringe with a large gauge blunt needle.

@@hobbywaffle you have to spend the money whatever you do, if you're transferring paints that means you already have citadel one's, used them up and then change them as they run out for Vallejo for example
