What if i dont have much GEs completed by transfer? My course plan is geared towards UC transfer but it seems most wont transfer to USC. I also have a bunch if dual enrollment credits from HS would those count for USC?

Congrats on your acceptance, and great video! I’m trying to transfer in one year to USC and have just completed 8 units for this summer. I hear people say “you need 60 credits to be a competitive applicant,” and you said to max out each semester. Does this mean accumulating more GEDs even though I’ve already scheduled to “complete” the articulation agreement? Maybe take more music (my major) courses? Thank you!

Thank you so much! I'm glad this video helped. Without 60 units, I still believe you will be a competitive applicant. Of course the more units you have the better, but showing USC that you're working towards the completion of your GE's still gives you a competitive edge. I transferred with 42 units, which is nowhere near as much as 60 units! And yes, it's amazing that you are scheduled to complete the articulation agreement. I would recommend taking any classes that can relate to your field of study. These credits may transfer as elective units to USC. I'm not so sure that these will transfer as credit towards your degree of completion at USC because I know that USC is very picky with the type of classes you take for your major, but don't let this discourage you in taking classes that relate to your field, it's only a head start! Best of luck on your transferring process :)

A little late but no matter what school you plan to apply to the more units you have the more competitive you are. This is mainly for two reasons, one they have a better look at how you perform in college and two, if the credits articulate you're more likely to graduate on time. You don't need to have that many to transfer, I feel most rising sophomores that apply don't have anywhere near that many credits. I think you're right more music based classes would be the way to go if you're on track to get most of your GE's out of the way and already met major requirements, however, you can email the specific school at USC or your USC counselor for clarification.

Hi Cheyenne, I was wondering how many times can we double count for the USC GE requirements?

i’ve heard that it can count for all categories! guidelines may have changed since i applied so i would check with the current rules!
