I always knew this was possible, I made tennis-sized crochet balls and felted over them years ago, idk why people only use felting for details like eyes when it can be used to make amazing projects like yours... I'm delighted such a great crochet artist is using this underrated technique, it's so beautiful...

Thanks, I'm so happy to hear you like my work 🥰 With felting being so slow, it could be that people don't have the time for more than eyes? Or maybe they're not confident in their ability to do a good job over the whole model? 🤔 In my experience as a designer, time and confidence are the main things that hold people back. I'm hoping that Projectarian's Year of Fur can help 😄🙌

Yea.... Because it’s a much more tedious process that needs separate skill set, more materials, and confidence. Also getting stabbed repeatedly accidentally with a needle that have micro thorns are not pleasant... ._.

Hi there! I just happened across this amazing video/idea/excecution! Fantastic!!! I do have some tips for you as I'm a doll wig maker and I used to work with yarn to make the wigs, so I know the pain and process of turning yarn into fibers. First and easy tip: unravel the yarn [combing it as it is will work, but it produces more 'fluff' and it's a little harder imo - if you unrol it, the pet brush glides easier through each one]. Second tip: you don't have to tie the yarn in a knot from the get-go, divide into smaller sections and knot later [advanced tip: use a spiral notebook and tie a few strands of yarn through the loops. Then, lay on flat surface, unravel the strands and start combing. You get more done, less waste and I find it less harmful for your hands than holding and brushing. Hand cramps are not fun if you do this for a long time]. Third tip (optional, but perhaps useful): spray the knotted strands with a "secret spray" [basically, in a spray bottle add water and a little bit of fabric softener and hair conditioner -this will make a detangling spray that will help with brushing]. Fourth tip (going together with previous as we add moisture): press the sprayed yarn with a hair straightener [this will get rid of the moisture, but the yarn will have been introduced to the softening agents, so all good. This, in addition to unravelling the yarn, will help glide through the yarn and produce silky fabrics that smell amazing. Low heat if you're using acryllic yarn, as it might melt.] I am not a needle-felt person (not yet), so I can't tell for sure if the last two tips are of any use, but I thought to include them! Happy crafting!

This blew my mind! I have been a fiber artist for 15 years and I had no idea that you could felt with acrylic! I thought the scales on animal fiber were necessary, but it makes sense that if you are stabbing the fiber enough times into a base that it would still hold in place eventually. Very cool!

Beautiful! What a great way to express your creativity and fuel your imagination! I think when you've mastered one type of art, such as crocheting, it's important to challenge yourself to grow. I know this was time consuming, but I believe the key to creating any beautiful piece of art is not getting caught up in how fast you can complete it. When you take your time and stretch yourself outside of the box, you become fully present and enjoy the journey. BRAVO! This was so inspiring, thank you for sharing your talent! ~~Christy~~

Kudos to your patience. It really looks great. To this day all I ever did was wet felting. But I love to crochet. Based on the TON of work, I only would try dry felting on a small amigurumi. Guess I would go slightly crazy spending a whole week doing this 😂

Wow, she looks absolutely spectacular, you did an amazing job!! I don't think I'll invest that much effort in felting a whole project unless it's for a particularly special reason... however you did inspire me to get felting tools to do details such as eyes, noses, rosy cheeks and inner ears, which I think will still give my projects an extra-special look. Thank you!

Oh, it's so cool to see someone else making these! I have a husky dog with a weird coat, and I could never get her to look right, so I crocheted a dog and then felted her over the whole thing to give her her red-brown-blond colouring, and it was perfect. I've made little ballss and felted on shapes as christmas ornaments, too, to give to friends. And of course there''s the dolls with curly or close-cropped hair, which is much easier to felt than to embroider or crochet!

even tho im a novice I enjoy needle felting very much, its become my favorite hobby besides drawing and sewing so I love this idea of making a plush and then felting over it to make details! I dont like or even remember how to crochet but I bet using this idea with a felt plush would work just as well and could make it easier to do small details instead of doing complicated sewing patterns and dealing with faux fur fabric. ty for this video it has definitely gotten the creative juices flowing lol

It looks soo cute. Kudos to your hard work, it looks like it took so much effort and time but in the end it paid off! I don't crochet yet but I've made these balls of fluff before by accident, I was trying to make fur for a project (a big llama with straps you could put on your shoulders to walk around and "ride" it) and I noticed the balls of fluff that were left behind on the brush looked much more delicate than the fur I was making for the body, so I decided to not let them go to waste and use them to make the llama's cute face. One of the most time consuming projects I've ever had, but also the most satisfying. I ended up learning so much from it

I just found your channel and I am in love with this video. ❤ I also love crocheting and knitting felting is fun too. There are so many ways to use felt it can be a very good product for making stuffed animals and other types of things. I used to make washcloths from soft felt and yarn by crocheting the yarn into squares and adding felt to one side for scrubbing. I also crochet a glove wash cloth with felt fingertips for scrubbing. They lasted longer than regular wash clothes. I used rubber gloves for a template. 😊
