Here’s a fun little fact. Each year that passes reduces the relative fraction that a “year” represents. When you’re four years old, one year is 25% of your lifetime. When you’re 10 that percentage is reduced by 15% in that one year is 10% of your lifetime. When you’re 40 you’ve gone way in the other direction, with one year representing a measly 0.025% of your lifetime. Enjoy it while it lasts!

I've found that I make more progress that way bc I'm addressing what’s affecting me now rather than what I want in some abstract future. I think I agree with Struthless in that feeling progress is motivating and enjoyable.. maybe you can do something like learn to juggle or draw in that free time. Drawing might help you to look at the things around you during your work time differently, too, as you work out what it might be like to draw them. 🙂

I’ve been reading the discworld series by terry pratchett for a year or so now. I had the most profound response when reading “hogfather”. I realized my depression, and the learned helplessness I gained while imprisoned at a Mormon boarding school, was so deep I had forgotten simple truths. You speak about it in this video briefly and I’d heard the same wisdom and understood it at multiple times throughout my lif, but had lost it. For some reason I needed that book. You have to BELIEVE your life can change, you have to believe even if you have thought it impossible for your whole life. You have to believe in something that doesn’t even seem real, otherwise it can never become. Man the speech death at that point in the book is just incredible, if it’s easy to find I’m gonna post it below in case any nut job actually reads all this.

right,” said Susan. “I’m not stupid. You’re saying humans need…fantasies to make life bearable.” REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE. “Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little-” YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES. “So we can believe the big ones?” YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING. “They’re not the same at all!” YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET-Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME…SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED. “Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what’s the point-” MY POINT EXACTLY. She tried to assemble her thoughts. THERE IS A PLACE WHERE TWO GALAXIES HAVE BEEN COLLIDING FOR A MILLION YEARS, said Death, apropos of nothing. DON’T TRY TO TELL ME THAT’S RIGHT. “Yes, but people don’t think about that,” said Susan. “Somewhere there was a bed…” CORRECT. STARS EXPLODE, WORLDS COLLIDE, THERE’S HARDLY ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE WHERE HUMANS CAN LIVE WITHOUT BEING FROZEN OR FRIED, AND YET YOU BELIEVE THAT A…A BED IS A NORMAL THING. IT IS THE MOST AMAZING TALENT. “Talent?” OH, YES. A VERY SPECIAL KIND OF STUPIDITY. YOU THINK THE WHOLE UNIVERSE IS INSIDE YOUR HEADS. “You make us sound mad,” said Susan. A nice warm bed… NO. YOU NEED TO BELIEVE IN THINGS THAT AREN’T TRUE. HOW ELSE CAN THEY BECOME? said Death

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. My life has slowly become a quagmire of quicksand over these past few years and I think you might be right... it's time to declare a quest and set some nebulous long-term goals and start my journey toward the near-term accomplishments. Thanks for making the graphics available, too. I wanna put that up on the wall with a calendar so I can be reminded of the big picture each time I decide on what I'm doing with my week.

Update #1: It has now been printed and framed overtop a calendar. Time to get to work. Update #2: Thought of something that's been making me unhappy about my life of late (I'm overweight) and went through the framework.. procrastinating.. what would happen in a year or two if I didn't make any changes.. Why am I not making headway today... what do I need to do to make progress... remember that progress in itself is the reward.. This is a fantastic framework. I never before would have concluded that one of the changes that I need to make is "invest in making my kitchen a fun and inviting space". Between that, exercising at least twice a week, and no video games until after dinner... life's about to change. Pretty dramatically. Tbh, kinda scared of it. I've gotten so used to living with distraction that this is gonna be really hard.. but yeah, future me on current trajectory is not a me that I want anyone to know. The time is now. Ugh, soo not excited for this. Change is scarey.

journal prompts: 1. procrastination - what happens if you do nothing? - it's a 100 days from now and your flaws have caused you to fail and you know why. what did you do? 2. self-doubt - think about yourself for the last 6 months and give yourself a rating out of ten for various life categories e.g. family, fitness, money, work, projects - for each rating, ask yourself why isn't it one point lesser (why isn't it worse/what did you do well) 3. not enough time - what if i had to do it in 50/20/10/7 days? what if the clock was counting down and you HAD to get it done? 4. distraction - assume you have 0 willpower and do things that force you to do the right things 5. perfectionism - for finding out what you want: what is better than now? what do you not want? e.g. don't want to be broke - avoid putting your happiness on big achievements and milestones because the high is fleeting: what would you do if you knew you'd fail at everything (inherently rewarding)

And above all, realistic and do-able. I think some of your videos have been the most practical and helpful stuff I have come across. Still got my notes on VOMIT journaling!

Hi, 56 year old mum from Chicago. Love your content. One of my kids (25 yrs old) showed up last summer in the coolest shorts and they looked so familiar, was admiring them all day till it clicked! They were yours! Well, not literally, ha. Your design. But I'm writing to ask you to please do a video on PRINT ON DEMAND for artists. Personally, I'm looking to do fine art prints and the array of possibilities is dizzying. Also maybe coffee mugs... One of your deep dives would be so helpful. I've read a million of reviews and they all contradict each other and I don't know if it's worth it anyway... So many people could use this. In any case, you're great and provide really lovely videos. Thank you. Kate

The QUEST acronym is quite creative and a bolt of brilliance. Thanks for the awesome visual guide and it's free! Cheers to 100 days and counting down

Hearing you say "I've had enough of myself" is so wild to me, that exact thought is what triggered me to get some help. It put me on the path of learning how to be someone who doesn't make my life harder. I remember six months ago sitting in a psychologist's office saying to her "I'm just so damn sick of myself". You ever watch something and its like the person is speaking directly to you? That's what watching this was!

I think i found myself saying out loud, i love this stuff. I love everything about it, it scratches that annoying itch and clears the fog in such a way that I feel i can trust this. Thank you for putting in the time to create this, I love you. I hope we can meet some day. ❤

Love your videos for so long now. The algorithm kept hiding them from me but I found a way to only see the channels I follow. Rediscovered you 😅 and just ordered your book. I’m very excited. Tons of good reviews, of course ❤️

This was fantastic and it is incredible how clearly you communicate a lot of dense information. Period. And then you somehow also do it concisely. Also, I love your asterisks earrings.

Geez that’s a scary thought Half way through the decade!!!💀
@m.i.c.h.o2 ай бұрын
Wait.. Since when??
@azlizzie2 ай бұрын
Depends on how you count. If 2020 is 1, 2024 is 5. So when it turns 2025, that's the beginning of the 6th year of the 20s. Little confusing but 2030 doesn't count in the 20s decade.
@salty_3k5062 ай бұрын
@@azlizzieyes but that means halfway through the decade is true
@m.i.c.h.o2 ай бұрын
@@leumasecir9369 If you count from the beginning of the decade which is 2020, then it is ten years until the next decade of course. We are almost at 5 years from the beginning of the decade, meaning that we are almost half way there.

I've got notifications off on most things, a siren strategy I suppose. But whenever I check in to see if you've dropped a new video ... O M G!! It is ALWAYS worth the wait. So well researched, such amazing illustrations, fabulous editing, and always helpful and inspiring, and soooo re-watchable. Scoring yourself 4/10 for KZbin? Maybe you want to be posting more frequently, and maybe you've got a heap of ideas you want to make videos on, but at what cost? I feel like if you were posting really frequently you wouldn't be able to have such high quality vidoes AND be an awesome dad AND keep writing the book we are all going to pre-order the second you announce it! I love this video on so many levels. The identification of the problems, using metaphors, making the metaphors into a freaking amazing acronym "QUEST", just total brilliance!! Making the image for the quest framework available for download - I love you so much for this. I've just set it as my desktop wallpaper, maybe it will make me think twice about following a siren next time I'm actually trying to do something. I love (and hate) the way you wrote perfectio-nism. Your illustrations are simply spot on, and I can FEEL those red lines around the last square. I'm going to sit down with my journal and go through all 15 concepts to figure out how I can steer this houseboat n+1 better before it gets beached in some quicksand.
