@1:57 he said the distance from both frame is 700 how??if its equal was not that necessary to explain. How come the 700 is unchanged its 500 which is unchanged.

I have the same doubt in that part my friend.... I couldn't get the point of " that your friend's house and frame of reference.". this is the problem with half baked examples either mention it clearly or don't give such examples...... it is bit vague in that part... except that ambiguity .. the x' and y' part was fine ... but the beginning ruined everything... I went to Walter Lewin lectures after this it was very funny and I thoroughly enjoyed it... it gives us some insight about the decomposition of vectors and its applications... please watch it...

well 700 is distance the person travlled first to east and then to north. 500 is also unchanged but the direction is changed, not its magnitude..
