In my opinion, Your explanation or rather usage of the word 'load' is flawed hence misleading. You mention that 'double the load' and proceed to increase the resistance to 2k when in fact you are just 'halving' the load. Increased load will result in increased current draw which is a simple concept to follow, doubling the resistance does not mean doubling the load.
