Those guns are usually loaded with things like High Explosive rounds or specialty anti-armour. They don't necessarily always kill the Decepticons, but they can mess them up and sometimes coerce them into fleeing to avoid serious damage.

​@@junehollybell5977Yeah a set of gun runs did devastating damage to a decepticon in the first movie, and in the same movie, some type of assault rifle platform loaded with anti-armour was able to slow down and deal moderate damage to decepticons. I think in later movies, they have at least one sequence where a Rocket launcher takes a massive chunk out of a decepticon.
