Capacitor dropper or transformer less power supply is used for low power and cheap electronic devices
Transformer less power supply consists 5 blocks:
1-Series resistor ; which is used to prevent the capacitor from high or boulki current.
2-Capacitor : is use to minimize the supply voltages according to the load requirement .
NOTE:::the capacitor which is used for voltage doper , should be no polar and 1 resistor which have the resistance or 1M ohm should be placed in parallel with the capacitor .
3-Rectifier unit: : is used to convert ac voltages into dc voltages .
4- Filter unit: is used to minimize the ripple at the output ot the rectifier unit.
5-Regulator unit :: is used to fix the voltagelevel according to the load requirement . .

Could you please tell R1 in series considered as 280 ohms for 20ma, suppose if I take 500ma even then R1 would remain same. Plz let me is there any calculation on this. In your explanation have told about R, however you have considered value as 280 so got confused.

it is not capacitance (C) formula , it is capacitive reyactance formula... and the result will be came in ohms....not in farad or micro farad...

I have a doubt. To glow led of 2v and 20 milliamps We need to apply resistance of (220-2) /(.020). I.e., 11 k ohms across 220 v supply. So if we need 5v and 2 amps, should we be using 215/2. i.e., 107.5 ohms resistor?

Sir please help to understand I understand that the bridge is to convert AC to DC and the 470uf or up to 1000uf is to filter the output, so mainly the X rated capacitor and Rs and Rp (as per your diagram) are responsible for the voltage drop. But if I measure the AC voltage before the bridge rectifier or also the DC voltage after the bridge rectifier the voltage is above 200 volts so please explain where is the actual voltage drop is happening?

you can make a circuit which can accept both 220 and 127 v but this circuit is difficult. this circuit is used in computer power supplies .

ic 7805 is a 5 volts fix output linear voltage regulator. if voltage will increase by any reason , the regulator will reduce the output at fix 5 volt outpul
