And I just framed and hung two posters I had them sign and one of the photos we took together. It’s stuff like that that really makes the collection feel special for me

I appreciate it!!! My display has certainly evolved over the years … At one point I had the G1 and MPs both in robot mode to really show the evolution … but I found in the end that I really love the effect of “looking like the old catalogs” when one is in alt mode. Of course, some favorites like Prime, Megatron etc got a duplicate! I find my organizational OCD both frustrating and amazing 😂 for me I can’t just put a figure somewhere because it fits, the whole space has to “make sense.” I’m glad others can see the outcome of my inner Spock and appreciate it 🤣 🤣

Bobby Allen I gotta say that is a super cool collection and they way you’ve set it up for display really impressed me. I give bonus points for the skywarp is cyclonus part. Keep the fire burning mah dood, keep it burning bright. I was born in ‘82 but due to geography and other related circumstances didn’t get into the transformers until ‘89. Still for a good few years as a tween I was enthusiastically collecting transformers toys when all the other kids were into TMNT or were getting into cigarettes. Unfortunately I gave it up when I hit adolescence and when I hit adulthood adopted video game collecting as my expensive collecting hobby. Which is why videos like this are great for me as I can vicariously get the joy of collecting by seeing the end product of someone else’s endeavours and imagine an alternative timeline where I got back into collecting transformers in the early 2000s when vintage stuff was still pretty affordable and rebuild from there.

I love a little controversy 🤣 😈 🤣 I personally LOVE looking at other collections and displays… even if someone has the exact pieces I do, the way they arrange and showcase figures is always fun for me! I hope you do take some inspiration and take time to craft a display you love! I have always loved my collection but this summer I did a HUGE overhaul of the space with all the paint, lighting, downsizing (believe it or not 😂) and it’s hard to explain how much more I appreciate the space now!
@unstoppableExodia Жыл бұрын
@@LouboutinReviews i saw the TFW post and its was great to see the journey you took through photos. Really helps me to better appreciate where your collection is at now. And for me seeing the difference going from black shelves to white ones in enhancing the visibility of the display items is very useful for me. For my own collection display one thing I’ve been holding out for is shelves that are as thin as possible without costing a fortune. My thinking there is that for shelves that go from the floor to the ceiling, if i used the type of wooden shelves typically available from IKEA that are at minimum 10mm thick that could add up to around a 10-30cm of display space wasted on shelf thickness. The aesthetic I’ll be aiming for is that of a mural made up of the box art of games and systems (primarily on Nintendo platforms) that are meaningful to me. And as such i wish to maximize the available display real estate for the display items with minimal space between items. To achieve that the shelving will need to be custom made and the shelves will need to be some type modular floating units that can be moved at will to accommodate boxes of different dimensions and in particular arrangements that standard shelves won’t allow. There are other aspects i want to incorporate into the system such as storage and covers to protect the items from constant light exposure but i won’t go into them into too much detail. But what i will say is that the shelves you bought from IKEA work really well for displaying 3 dimensional items. Particularly where you have paired a characters G1 vintage toy in alt mode and its masterpiece counterparty in robot mode in all its cartoon accurate glory with in shelf LED lighting. I’ve seen others make shelves like that work with games, but I’m determined to bring my vision of a Game/console box art mural to life.

@@unstoppableExodia I have always enjoyed chronicling the changes over the years … reminds me of how far I’ve come and just in general brings me back to different memories over the years! I’ve seen black shelves look really cool too as long as they’re well lit … it can create a cool mood as long as the whole room is figured out with that aesthetic. As far as your room, I say go for it!! It’s always neat to see something different! I’ve often found that my original vision sometimes has to be compromised but in the end it actually works out better for it. @LouboutinReviews Жыл бұрын
I will be glad to fix that for you 🤣 🤣 I consider the Deluxe Insecticons even more forgotten than Whirl and Roadbuster 😢 I wasn’t sure what mode to display them in … I’ve tried to keep a pattern of G1 in alt mode if there’s a Masterpiece figure for it, but I already have exceptions to that with SkyLynx … I was considering just putting them all in alt mode only but then I guess I would need to pull the extra Targetmaster movie bots off the shelves… that said, it’s a constant work in progress and I like trying different things just to see how it feels 😁 I even thought about pulling the extra G1 Starscream but part of me does like seeing at least /some/ of the vintage figures in robot mode for the evolution you see 🤔

You have MP Tailgate, the Wave 3 repaint of Windcharger ( 2:46 ) between Warpath and Beachcomber, but you don't have the actual MP Windcharger ( 1:28 ), who will probably be between Huffer and Brawn. Good luck finishing your collection. It is quite impressive.
@LouboutinReviews Жыл бұрын
Windcharger is kinda a weird one for me … I don’t particular love that mold (Tailgate either) in the sense that I’m sure I will replace them when Fans Toys inevitably announces them … in the case of Windcharger, since I made that row of 1984 cars on my center table I just went ahead and moved him down there in anticipation for a new robot mode … I suppose you could say the same about why I don’t have an MP Rodimus on the main display wall. Tailgate I don’t plan to move anywhere other than my sell pile after replacement so he gets to stay on the shelf until then 😂 It’s all part of the fun … and it’s why I haven’t put too many Generations style Beast Wars figures out as MPs… I bought a few like Rhinox and Airrazor but I stopped since I knew I would eventually swap them all out. But the temptation to have something there in the mean time is quite strong 😂 All those empty gaps are also an easy way for me to point out things when someone asks me “is your collection complete?” On the flip side, I have no clue how I will react if/when all the pieces I want eventually exist … but I suppose we cross that bridge when we get there 😂

I mean… that’s your story 🤷 we grew up without money too. G2 and BW were what I grew up on but I also used to rent the VHS tapes and the 86 movie from our local Hollywood video and G1 just captured my interest. I used to stare at those catalogs for hours and dream about owning them. I used to make my own out of literal paper taped together that could transform. At one point I even had an old ATT and Geocities website dedicated to it so other people could print them and do the same. My vintage G1 collection didn’t explode until I was in college and all the Takara reissues started coming out. I worked full time to pay for school but did side jobs to afford the figures. When I got my first “big boy” job teaching high school I lived on my broke college budget for a full year and used the rest of my new salary to flesh out my collection. I hope I don’t come across sounding defensive but I wanted to correct your assumption about me personally. Part of why I’m obsessed with curating this room is because it represents owning the vintage figures I always wanted but never could, the MPs represent the characters I remember from rewatching the same VHS tapes over and over, and the way I display them side by side in vehicle mode reminds me of those catalogs I spent my childhood staring at, wishing that “one day, maybe one day I’ll own an actual Megatron or Hotrod” Well, little Bobby … look at us now, we did it!

Also, I specifically like the cool/logical side of the technobots juxtaposed with the sheer emotional/rage represented by the terrorcons ("money is everything" = the best episode, yes) how's about some symmetry in this regard : P My friend, peace from Poland/the Netherlands, where-ever, enjoy.
@LouboutinReviews11 ай бұрын
After my collection exploded in size, I had to pick a focus and that meant no more “main line” figures so I never really looked into the Combiner Wars figures. That said, Computron DESPERATELY needs a modern update (preferably in MP form soon!). My Decepticon wall is one wide bookshelf shorter due to the door, so I can’t get perfect symmetry with the Technobots and Terrorcons, but I have left space above the Decepticon wall to house a future MP Predaking and Abominus which I hope will look cool with some added lighting for them :)

Ive been working to get everything down in to totes so that I can only pull small samples of exactly what I like then either sell or lot out the rest. I own so much that I just have no connection to and bought on impulse. Huge regret from a space standpoint. I think that’s something we all go through as part of the collecting journey! Even as I sit here with a side room full of Armada/Energon etc toys and slowly selling them I don’t necessarily feel regret for buying them in the first place… I certainly enjoyed them at the time at least. I do find that having a focus for the size of your space (or a realistic future space) does help you enjoy what you’re collecting… I’ve seen people create rotating displays but I know myself and I wouldn’t follow through 🤣 I will say, choosing a focus has greatly increased the joy I feel in my room and limits my purchasing of new figures. But like a college major, feel free to change that multiple times and enjoy the ride!!

Its really difficult just working out an organization plan. I have so many totes packed in to my closet and still have 60 figures on shelves trying to pull down. I love realism so the movies are a focal point and without even thinking about it I know that im keeping my Alternators and MP's out. It may come down to just shelves of characters I love. Having 35 different versions of Optimus out when I have actual variety seems counter productive.@@LouboutinReviews

How often do you dust them to keep them so clean
@LouboutinReviews11 ай бұрын
I’m a high school teacher so I usually give it a proper dusting in the summer time. The “lucky” thing is the room just doesn’t collect a lot of dust. It’s upstairs, in an enclosed media room and no one is in there but me when I want to look or mess around… I closed off the vent to the room and it just honestly doesn’t collect dust the way that anywhere else in the house does! In fact, if I’m being honest I let it go for 3 years one time and it was still hardly noticeable.

now THIS is what I imagine when someone says they have a complete g1 collection. and you've got stuff from rid 2001 too? by the way, are the tfp figures first edition?
@LouboutinReviews Жыл бұрын
I’m still missing Battle Gaia (a Bruticus repaint) and then I’ll consider it “as complete as I’m gonna get” since some of those are reissues, high quality KOs or custom pieces … but to me it will represent all those figures in the space like a museum. All those other lines are ones I grew up collecting both as a kid and into adulthood…. At one point I came to terms with the fact that I could never have a display space curated the way I wanted to show them AND fit everything … I had to sell off lines like the Alternators and Titaniums, all my CHUGs etc. I ALMOST got rid of everything Armada forward but it really bothered me to think about doing it and that’s when I decided to pluck my favorite 4-6 characters/figures from each line. In the end, I love how it came out! And the Prime figures aren’t first additions, at least I’m fairly sure 😅😅 I collected them at retail and were the very last “non G1” line I ever purchased. I wrestled with wanting to showcase ALL the lines of transformers and decided I only “cared” about showcasing ones I grew up collecting like a story of my journey with the toyline :) Sorry for rambling 😂

Do you have an air filtration system to reduce the amount of dust?
@LouboutinReviews Жыл бұрын
The only thing I do is close the vent that blows the air into the room (not positive how much of a difference it makes) … but the room is in the center of the house with great insulation so doesn’t get hot or anything like that. I do occasionally dust but honestly I’m lucky that it doesn’t collect with anywhere near the speed of the rest of the house… plus I just like the look of the open shelves and some of their extremities sticking beyond the edge of the shelf so closing them off with doors is basically impossible so I just deal with it

I also don’t collect anything “main line” so I’m not spending that much throughout the year compared to someone actively buying everything that’s on the store shelves in a year. Was born in ‘74, so I had the joy of spending my pocket money on the first original transformers, and to me those are the only vintage toys, anything after the 80s are not original vintage toys. They don’t have the look or feel or actual nostalgia attached to the ORIGINAL ones, if you weren’t born or actually around buying and playing with them then you have absolutely no idea of how it feels to see a genuine original boxed one, I’ve recently started collecting some toy lines from in my life time which I actually experienced, the good thing for me is I only plan on replacing ones I actually owned at different times, what’s the point on buying or trying to track down something that has actual no true attachment to your life experience, a lot of these collections are just collecting for the sake or bragging rights of collecting, means nothing to me I’m afraid, only comment or watch to actually diss the people making the videos. Stick to things you actually experienced. It would be like me hey look I just bought a toy from the 1960’s which I have absolutely no attachment too just for the sake of owning that thing. Pointless, pure pointless.
@LouboutinReviews3 ай бұрын
@@northeast7412 First of all you don’t know me at all, so how can you possibly declare my experience or know what attachments I have? Second of all I absolutely do have attachments to all of this. You assume a lot and feel the need to troll? Why? Are you just an unhappy person? Jealous? Who knows 🤷 My first figures were G1 toys from the 1987-1990 range… a lot of what I grew up buying were G2 toys that very specifically were G1 molds in different colors. The original cartoon was syndicated and playing after school and on Saturdays so I fell in love with the same characters. I would go to Blockbuster and rent VHSs of the episodes and the 86 movie. I had catalogs that showed me all the rest of G1 and I would stare and salivate over all those toys that represented the characters I saw on screen but couldn’t possibly own because they came out too long ago. Then little vintage shops at local malls started carrying transformers and I saved up my pocket change trying to track down characters I never had access to. When computers started coming out I would design foldable paper transformers in whatever MSPaint style program existed in the 90s… I eventually made a geocities site dedicated to it called Make Your Own Transformers. I used those catalogs and photos I could find online at the time to help me figure out how they transformed so I could make my own. I even butchered a few junkers I found at garage sales along with some modeling clay and paint to make my own Arcee figure… With the help of the internet and the existence of eBay, I continued to have my parents help me track down figures I was missing for every birthday, christmas, etc… The internet also introduced me to a whole side of transformers that never came out in the US and it was like showing a kid the secret back room full of untold secrets… all of that inspired me to finish out G1. During all of this time I still actively kept up with BW, BM, Armada, Energon Cybertron etc… I had a goal of owning every single Transformer ever 😆 I eventually realized that that goal was impossible because the brand kept chugging along (not a bad thing)… As an adult, I wanted to be able to appreciate the figures in my display and give them breathing room so I eventually sold off literal 100s of figures but still chose to keep about 5-6 per faction of those lines I collected because they still represented the community and experiences I had growing up, the online communities and chat groups (then eventually the forums). I remember being part of new episode watch parties, drooling over online reveals etc … Every single thing in my room represents part of my personal journey and experience with these figures and the fandom. I would even argue the way I included the shadow boxes and the choice of characters for the back wall art piece all showcase my personal journey with this brand over the years… it’s not just stuff I bought because I could. Heck, even the main wall being displayed the way it is with MPs in the back and Vintage in alt mode is to harken back to those catalogs and the way the characters were laid out in the spreads I literally shadow boxed my very first 80s transformers because of how important they were… I paid waaaaaay too much money to commission Dan Khanna to make that Technobots piece for me on the back wall because those toys represent what started my passion…. January of this year I splurged and paid for a private meet and greet with Cullen and Welker because I wanted to meet the architects of my childhood. I was able to sit and chat with them for about 5 minutes … which doesn’t seem like a long time but it really was when you were the only one in the room with them. I got to share some of my story and my collection space, I got to ask them questions, get autographs, photos and personalized voice recordings… it was an experience I will cherish forever. How dare you assume my experience and act like somehow you’re better than another collector because of it? Do you see me trying to be some kind of influencer? My channel is about shoes 😆 I just happen to love Transformers and wanted to share my curated space because I figured other collectors could appreciate the layouts, the OCD in setups and arrangements of characters, and just generally appreciate the journey and evolution of this franchise over the years. I hope something in life brings you joy, because you come off as a miserable human being
