i appreciate the poetic justice and irony that accounts for tarn being defeated by soundwave here. Tarn is the "perfect decepticon." He represents the decepticon ideals that we all know and love: peace through tyranny, might makes right, stuff like that. This goes down to even his original counterpart, who was so devoted to the decepticon cause that he wears a mask of the decepticon logo (in this series thats just his face). Meanwhile, soundwave embodies the ideals the decepticons originally strove for: equality among all. in fact, outside of any transformers canon, soundwave's face inspired the decepticon logo. So the final battle was the personification of all the villainy of the decepticons who made his face the logo vs the personification of how the decepticons started who had his face made into the logo.

My absolute favorite thing about this scene is that Soundwave didn't have to steal the Cortex Helm from Tarn. He very easily could have just done the massive sonic explosion right after ejecting Laserbeak and killed Tarn then and there, but he didn't. Soundwave goes out of his way to do what Tarn never would: give the Supersoldiers free will. The soldiers all dropping their weapons as they realize they're free is one of my favorite moments in the entire series.

This show is underrated. Far from perfect and definitely started slow, but i liked how it handled war, negotiations, and the uncomfortableness that comes in the peace that followed.
