This is a video review of Hasbro's Transformers 1984 vintage minibot Cliffjumper! And in this video I take a look at the origins of Cliffjumper as well at his Hasbro card back's back story and play homage to the incredible voice actor Casey Kasem!

Interesting! I never realized this was a Japanese "chibi" interpretation of a Porsche! (And I always had this fuzzy childhood memory that there was a yellow Cliffhumper, and later just assumed it must have been Bumblebee. I guess I should have trusted my 6 year old self!

Nice video! I never was a big fan of Cliffjumper. Just was too impulsive for me. I was looking forward to him being a casualty when I finally saw the Movie. But with the exception of him almost being dropped in that stomach acid. He pretty much skated through the movie. I was never convinced that him and Jazz died when Unicron ate Moonbase 1. But he's still one of the great classical characters despite me not being a fan of him.

I had this guy too, liked him a little better than bumblebee but bumblebee was so much easier to find and in both colors. the erathrise cliffjumper is what i imagined what I was playing with back then. and HEY show us what you cut!! looks like you had fun on camera and you took that away from us, lmao!

I'm a big fan of the rub symbols as well! Particularly the original generation 1 characters, which would pretty much turn with the slightest touch. Unlike some of the re-released Transformers, generation 1 characters.

The 1974 stamp is about the Microman franchise, not about the toy itself. It wasn't produced until the 80s. The Porsche 924 Turbo, which has the spoiler, wasn't even introduced until 1978: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_924#924_Turbo

Yay, cliffjumper! Unfortunatley I never came across anyone having him toy shows. The one time I saw him was the keychain reissue, which I had a choice between him and bumblebee and I chose bumblebee. Thanks for the review. Seeing these toys reminds me of playing with them when I was little.

Great Review Cliffjumper is one of my Favorite Autobots Characters my number one favorite Autobots is Ironhide and that why I name my Channel Ironhide Primal I will tell you more about my channel when you review G1 Ironhide well back to Cliffjumper, Cliffjumper nickname is Cliff, his Autobots Partners are Beachcomber, Brawn, Jazz, Bumblebee, & Hound, His Motto "Let me at 'em!" "Strike first, strike fast, strike hard." "Let's bend some tailpipes!" and later after The Movie he toy got did continue & Cliffjumper stop repairing Because In season 3, Cliffjumper was reduced to a background character, a result of voice actor Casey Kasem's objection to the portrayal of Arab characters as stereotypical villains and departure from the show and his g1 toy got replaced by Hubcup a new Minibot for season 3

This isn’t really related to the video, but it always bugs me when people complain that the G1 toys don’t look like the cartoon. The toys came first, so why is it the toy’s fault? Even the ‘86 bots who were based on animation were based on concept art for the movie, and it got changed for the final film.

Not a big deal, but Cliffjumper is based on a Porsche 944, not a 924. He looks a little bit more like that car, but yeah, still squashed, haha. It reminds me of MicroMachines, which of course came later, and were even smaller. (Then Hasbro made MicroMasters to compete with them.) Someone in my neighborhood actually has a red Porsche 944. I was really excited when I saw it! And yeah, Cliffjumper was cooler than Bumblebee, who was wimpy and annoying at times. Anyway, just found your reviews, and they're great!

Huh, weird, I just checked and TFwiki and TransformersLand both say he's a 924. I had always heard 944 before, and that's what he's called on the Cliffbee review site (a great site.) I always thought Cliffjumper looks more like a 944, but apparently the 944 is based on the 924, with better performance and different styling. Hmm.

Man, I wish I had bought any of the minibots that got reissued last year. I totally skipped them because I wanted the big bots like Soundwave. Now I have a trailer for my optimus prime reissue and nothing to launch from it.

The 80's Transformers Fan I really hope so. Especially the bigger autobot cars too. I would absolutely love if they reissued ones like Ratchet, bluestreak, etc. Albeit hopefully with some fixing of the molds like bluestreak so the windshield doesn’t break as easily as the original. It would be really great though because the secondary market marks up some of them way too much and I just know that I’ll never get my hands on some of them like G1 Headmaster Snapdragon or Godmaster Overlord.

@@mystics1ay3r17 that's the thing with the reissues, Takara/Hasbro pretty much copy the original flaws in all. With some rare exceptions like Powermaster Optimus Prime/ God Ginrai . Where they actually made improvements to the mold.

The 80's Transformers Fan We can only hope for some good reissues with improvements. At the very least, I hope they reissue some of the ones that are really expensive for originals on the after market. Some are ridiculously priced. Even spare parts for some of my incomplete ones are ridiculous. I’m only missing the “engine holder/chest piece” for G1 Doubledealer, but it’s $40 minimum when it pops up and it rarely pops up.
