For the people that don’t know why Megatron became evil and wondering why he did: Back in the day Megatron And Optimus we’re friends their names weren’t always “Megatron and Optimus Prime.” Their names were Megatronus and Orion Pax. Megatron wanted to change his name/shorten it for some..-Unknown reason. But the reason why Megatron became evil is because Optimus got the Matrix Of Leadership and became a Prime. Megatron wanted it so desperately he became evil and tried whatever he could to get it. (He also wanted to be a prime to take control of everyone) so then the two “friends” fought each other for years, centuries, than became eons.

Well actually he had a more honorable reason he wanted to change the caste system they had on cybertron to stop the meaningless discrimination on others based on what they could transform into. Orian pax/Optimus agreed with the speeches megatron gave when he was a gladiator, for he two believed that their must be a change for betterment. However, that noble intention in megatron changed through each battle and argument was in especially with the so called “council” at the time. He stated in the court that the new system should be tyranny due to him seeing so many suffer and enduring much himself. Ofc we all know Optimus didn’t agree with what megatron proposed, but at the same time I don’t blame megatron to go savage. The council at the time wasn’t the best especially when it came to listing of the people, the only reason they went Optimus idea was because it protected them in a sense ofc Optimus didn’t have this intention he just didn’t like the idea of a system that causes more despair.

If we go by tfp story then megatronus being a gladiator saw first hand how the lower caste bots suffered and wanted to repla5 the current leadership which was the cause. So he leaves the arena and goes into politics (the reason why he shortens his name to megatron). Orion pax who was the archivist of iacon hall of records studies about Cybertron's past starts to feel that the current system is bad. He gets inspired by megatron's ideology and they became friends. Finally Megatron gets a huge following and the council summons him. Megatron demands to be made the next prime so as to change the system, orion disagrees with Megatron's methods and talks about his own solution. This impressed the council who then started to favour orion to become the next prime. Megatron gets angry and leaves the council and breaks all contacts with orion. Then megatron forms the decepticons, starts a civil war, obtains dark energon, kills zeta prime, corrupts the core of cybertron with dark energon. The council makes orion the next prime ( there can be only 1 prime at any give moment), he visits the core and learns that the core was way too corrupted and would have to shutdown for thousands of years to repair itself and at that time it can't produce energon which is the lifeblood of all cybertronians. So they decide to leave the planet, the core ( primus) give a portion of his spark to orion ( the matrix of leadership) and he becomes optimus prime ( in the game his name is already optimus even before becoming a prime). So autobots start to leave, but Megatron tries to kill them, later optimus and the remaining autobots leave onboard the "ark"through an artificial wormhole which became unstable and started shrinking, Megatron follows them in hopes of stopping them, gets into a fight with optimus and finally everyone gets sucked into the wormhole just before it disappears.

I will admit there are some inconsistencies, but overall, Prime and the Cybertron games are in the same continuity.

It took THIS for Optimus to realize that he needed to take Megatron out? After the thousands of Autobots that died at Megatrons hand? That's the only downfall from Prime that everyone loves. The clips are combined part of Tranformers War for Cybertron till 1:40 & after that its Transformers Fall of Cybertron... i played both of these a long time ago on Xbox 360.
