I refer to them as the Fall of Cybertron games because 'War for Cybertron' gets used often enough when talking about comics, the series, and toyline. And yes, it was an absolute travesty what happened with that 3rd game. How do you make a game that's the 3rd part of a series but tied into a different continuity entirely?

The game was meant to be a 3rd tie in to the cybertron games (just say cybertron games, everyone will automatically know what you mean by that) while simultaneously capitalizing on aoe at the time while not being connected to it. Transformers the game from 07 did the same thing. Capitalizing on the 07 film while not being connected to it. It's only the parts that take place on cybertron in rise of the dark spark that could be considered canon to the cybertron games. The aoe segment is It's own thing. Instead of hasbro releasing a 3rd game and a aoe inspired game separately, they combined both.

There's a cycle. 1) A beloved, well written, and excellent favorite show. 2) A darker and/or controversial show that has its fans, but wasn't as fun. 3) A return to form, more lighthearted and simple, but not as beloved as the first outing. BW/BW/RiD A/E/C Animated/Prime/NuRiD Cyberverse/Earthspark/Cyberworld Cyberworld will show if that pattern holds. Prime was certainly beloved, but not nearly to the degree of Animated. And it was certainly darker.

sequel shows as a concept have always been doomed fail, cause all it does is making the new show canon to a already beloved and successful series to attract and cash in with the older audience, yet they regard everything the older show has established. Even years later, hasbro has not learned it’s lessons and made the Fifth generation of my little pony Canon to the forth. And guess what, old Fans were obviously not happy with the show itself, the problem themselves involve more than just butchering the cannon which same can be said with TFRID. That's wrong... Season 4 of Animated was cancelled but not for that reason. The Hub channel and Prime didn't even exist yet when Animated was cancelled. In fact you have it totally backwards. You see Cartoon Network cancelled Transformers Animated ending their deal with Hasbro which is what prompted to Hasbro to just buy their own network in the first place. They got tired of having to rely on networks like Fox Kids, Kid's WB, or Cartoon Network in order to distribute their shows and they decided instead of selling the T.V. rights to a network only to keep getting their shows cancelled after three seasons they would make their own Network so they could distribute this stuff themselves and cut out the middle man. The problem was even though Cartoon Network cancelled the show and hadn't ordered any more seasons they still technically owned the rights for that series and continued to show it in reruns so Hasbro couldn't just move that series over to the Hub and keep it going. They had to create a new series which ended up being Transformers Prime. Of course the Hub failed because they only had like maybe 3 original shows and the rest of the programming block was all reruns of older shows Hasbro either already owned the rights for or were able to purchase the rights for to show on the Hub. Plus they're a toy company and have no idea how to actually run a television network. They ended up going BACK to Cartoon Network after selling the Hub to Discovery and had the same problem again only in reverse where shows like Rescue Bots were continuing to be shown on the Hub now rebranded as Discovery Family because they had the rights to that series and only new shows could actually air on Cartoon Network. Speaking of which Transformers Rescue Bots is the longest running cartoon series in Transformers history being the only series to actually go on for longer than three seasons. Also you said "I challenge you to viewer, to tell me if there is even 1 good Transformers sequel" and then you immediately mentioned one in the video. Beast Wars is a direct sequel to Generation 1 and it's not only good, it's actually BETTER than the original show. I also actually like Beast Machines and don't think it's as bad as most people do but I will agree it's not as good as Beast Wars was. The Unicron Trilogy is another one where I would actually argue that the sequels are better than the original. Armada is the worst series in Transformers. This is largely do to the fact that the original Japanese series, Micron Legend, wasn't even finished yet and the series was brought over to the U.S. with unfinished animations, terrible dubbing, and the creators behind the scenes did not care, they were just trying to make a dead line. That's also why even though it has largely the same cast of voice actors from the Beast Era they do not sound nearly as good. Like Garry Chalk as Primal actually has some personality and character to his performance but the same actor as Prime sounds like he's just reading from the script and not actually performing the script. The actors even admitted that they knew it was bad, they tried to warn the director and producers that fans would hate this and they just did not care because they thought the fans were just a bunch of dumb kids who wouldn't notice. Energon is technically better in the sense that even though they still mixed up characters names (Cliffjumper and Downshift) they were at least more consistent with the names being swapped and didn't call them by a different name every episode or some times by different names within the same episode like Armada tended to do. The animation was already completed so there weren't as many animation errors like Jetfire randomly changing color in the middle of a scene. There was still a lot of continuity errors but ironically if you just completely ignore that's meant to be a sequel and watch it as it's own stand alone series it actually works a lot better. I can say the same thing about Cybertron except now it has the added benefit that the original Japanese series, Galaxy Force, was literally intended to be it's own stand alone series not a sequel so there is even more reason to ignore any made up connection to Armada. They also randomly recast most of the actors so except for Optimus and Megatron almost everyone else had a completely different voice. Even though they said it's a sequel it doesn't work as a sequel. The show is only good if you view it as it's own stand alone series. I'm not sure if that counts since technically the thing that makes these sequels good is to pretend they aren't sequels. Not really talked about in the video but Transformers Rescue Bots Academy is... not bad but not as good at the original. It also largely contradicted part of the original series in the first episode. The original Rescue Bots anyone could scan multiple alt modes, they just had to learn how to do it, it was something that had to be EARNED. But in Rescue Bots Academy Hot Shot is just GIVEN a Multi-Cog that instantly allows him to do though there is limit suddenly where he can only transform into 1 of his three alt modes per day and once he chooses a vehicle mode for the day he's stuck with it for the rest of the day. Other than completely changing how having multiple alt modes works the rest of the series is actually pretty good, I love girl Whirl. When it comes to the Machnima series I actually think the 3rd season of that is the only one that's actually worth watching. Season 1, Combiner Wars, has nothing to do with combiners and I had no idea what was going on that entire series. Characters would just show and do things but I never knew who any of them were or what their motivations were because the series never bothered to actually tell us anything about what was going on. If felt like I was watching a continuation of a story that I missed the first half of. Season 2, Titans Return, is just one long fight scene where Starscream's ghost is possessing Trypticon and someone how everyone knows it's Starscream even though he never speaks and could just be Trypticon the entire time. Like honestly I wouldn't even know Starscream was possessing him if they characters didn't keep calling him Starscream. But yet there's no actual plot or story the entire season, from start to finish it's just one long fight scene. I don't mind ending an episode in the middle of a fight and leaving it as a cliffhanger but if you can't deal with the problem in the very next episode then it's going to feel like you're padding it out because you have no actual story. Especially when it's literally the entire freaking season is just that one combat encounter. Season 3 Power of the Primes is when they bring in Megatronus Prime and this is the good season, I would honestly recommend skipping the first two parts because you're missing nothing since there's no real story until it gets to season 3, that's where the plot actually starts. If you're confused on any of the continuing story lines like why Overlord is hunting down Megatron, the first two seasons aren't going to explain it either so you'll be just as lost either way. Need to know why Rodimus Unicronus is a thing? No you don't it doesn't matter. Basically Overlord shoves a Chaos Matrix in his chest and there is no further explanation of where he got it why he did that, what their goal is, it's never explained. The only story line that matters is Megatronus Prime/The Fallen because that's actually done very well and it's Mark Hammil doing the voice. So just do yourself a favor and start at season 3. The Netflix series, Siege, fantastic... well specifically that Megatron is Fantastic, Impactor is great, the rest is kind of forgettable. Earthrise, has nothing to do with Earth, they don't even step foot on Earth. I hate season 2. Season 3, Kingdom... as good as Decepticon Megatron is in this series, Predacon Megatron is the exact opposite being the WORST thing about the series. Beast Wars Megatron is one of the most intelligent Megatrons ever but this series makes him an idiot. I do actually kind of like the BW references though like Dinobot still managing to die a heroic death but this Dinobot never becomes a Maximal and Primal says "You would have a been a terrible Maximal" as Dinobot dies. I think season 3 is better than season 2 but not better than season 1. And they kind of killed one of the best characters off screen and forgot he even existed but I loved Impactor in season 1 till they forgot he was a thing in the series.

Fascinating. I knew of Hasbro wanting to be in charge of their own Network and it being an issue of licensing, but not so much that Cartoon Network were the ones who pulled the plug first. Usually it would be Hasbro doing such given their history of throwing things at the wall and hoping it sticks. I explained in the video how Beast Wars counts more as a midquel, though if anything it happens so far early into the G1 story that it might as well be a prequel. The setting of the entire series takes place on Earth between the 1st half of More Than Meets the Eye pt 1. Beast Machines is a decent show on its own for the most part, but not as a good Beast Wars sequel. I'm familiar with the rushed production behind Armada. Though wasn't Energon rushed as well, because the focus was more towards Cybertron/Galaxy Force only to end up needing to work on Energon? I do agree that Hasbro needed to take their time getting these shows done properly to make them good. This take on Optimus wasn't very memorable aside from occasional one-liners and his design/transformations. It just makes Energon so much worse in my eyes how it has so much more to go into and it does but again Hasbro dropped the ball. Then to add OVA quality 2D scenes because the CG is worse than in Season 1 Beast Wars has people now saying it should've been 2D. But in reality it'd be an Armada situation 2.0 so half a dozen eggs. Energon Prime is one of the better Optimus' because he has so much personality, regardless of the Fatimus design. When the showrunners only view their audience with contempt, it shows. Just because it's a "kid's" show doesn't mean it shouldn't be made of quality. Cybertron wouldn't really count as a sequel since it's supposed to be the 3rd part of a trilogy. But at this point, it might as well be a stand-alone sequence. Especially after how I mention there practically aren't any more Decepticons after events of Energon, at least on the planet Cybertron. Haven't seen Rescue Bots or Rescue Bots Academy. I'm aware they exist, but haven't seen. Another commentor recommended it, so I'll get around to it eventually. Prime Wars like Energon had some interesting ideas. But the direction and pacing was done far too poorly. Titans Return feels plotless. Godzilla movies do more than just show the monster tearing up Japan. There has to be inbetween moments and buildup to the attacks. And most certainly characters can't just fly into the monster when it's not even their intent, Thundercracker, Skywarp, and maybe Sunstorm. I agree Megatronus being brought in was a good idea. The whole thing with Overlord and Rodimus Uniconus was unnecessary and does Hot Rod dirty. I enjoyed Siege for the most part. They had a good setup with the war torn Cybertron and the Autobots are on its dying legs. And it's Megatron who steals the show. I also enjoyed this take of Bumblebee who is just another Cybertronian who doesn't want to take sides, that's a good and different take...until he was just zapped and now he's an Autobot. Impactor and Skyfire had good arcs in there too. Transformers really should take notes from Mobile Suit Gundam and how it portrays the Zeon and Federation soldiers as just people on opposing sides. Yes, even if the Zabi family are evil much like Megatron, the ones following all are not. You know, like the G1 box description of several characters like Thundercracker wondering if the war is even worth it or Mirage being shady.

@@RedlineRendezvous Beast Wars is not a prequel. Yes it does take place mostly on Earth while the Autobots and Decepticons are is stasis but the Maximals and Predacons are from the future. All of G1 happened in their past. They refer to the events of G1 as the Great War. They even mention Galvatron, Uncron, and Starscream's Ghost all of which doesn't happen till 2005. So no the series is not a prequel. Time Travel is involved to get them to Prehistoric Earth. And yes, all three of those Unicron Trilogy shows were kind of rushed out but Armada suffered the most because the Animation wasn't even done yet when it got shipped to the U.S. TFWiki mentions a lot of animation differences between Micron Legend and Armada because Armada technically aired first despite the show originally being a Japanese Anime. Super Link actually got to come out in Japan before Energon came out in the U.S., same with Cybertron so those shows were actually done and didn't have the same issues with all the animation errors. But they had the problem of the ugly blend of CGI robots with transitional hand drawn backgrounds that never actually blend well. They're not good shows by any means but I can actually tolerate the sequels despite their flaws way more than Armada. Also the third part of a trilogy is still a sequel. Anything that continues the same story is a sequel. Everything from Revenge of the Fallen to The Last Knight are all sequels to the 2007 movie. The word Trilogy just means a series of three, at least that's what it was suppose to mean originally but modern movies have kind of changed that since they don't really stop at three anymore. Except for Star Wars which actually bothers to separate it's movies into different trilogies. But that's also kind of why they came up with the term franchise to cover larger universes where they use to call the whole thing a Trilogy even if it was more than three movies. The reason Cybertron shouldn't count is just because Galaxy Force was never intended to be a sequel but Hasbro dictated that it was because they wanted it to be a Trilogy. Yet they still made dumb decisions like changing all the voice actors around, giving all the characters random accents they never had before, and the dumbest thing ever, Optimus Prime saying he's never seen Combiners before despite the fact literally every Autobot in Energon was a combiner and the fact that he's been able to do it since Armada. But he stupidly says in Cybertron that he's never seen it before. Oh and they randomly brought back characters who were suppose to be dead with no explanation. Like Sideways which makes sense in Japan cause Noisemaze is a totally different character than Doubleface but in the U.S. they're suppose to be the same character. Oh yeah, I love Rescue Bots. Originally started watching it with my son because it's aimed at a much younger audience I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. I don't know if I'd go as far to say that they're the best Transformers shows that exist but I would say they're the best preschool shows that exist. Most shows for kids that young I find supper annoying because they tend to treat their audience like they're stupid instead of treating them like they're uneducated. There's a difference. One is like they're incapable of learning and the other is like they're actually trying to allow kids to learn and grow. So I love those shows. It's one of the only things I can watch that's meant for little little kids that isn't going to annoy the crap out of me. And I agree with MOST of what you're saying about the Machinema and Netflix shows except for one thing. It's Jetfire, I know he's modeled to look more like G1 Skyfire with the head design but they did actually call him Jetfire in this series. And I didn't think his character arc made any sense. Impactor's character arc going from Decepticon to Autobot works because he was damaged and left dying by his own people only to be saved by an Autobot medic. He saw how the Autobots were treating not only their people but also helping enemy soldiers without any care for what side they're fighting on, they just see someone who needs help and they help. It's because of that Impactor switching sides makes sense. With Jetfire however, he is portrayed in that series as the most evil sadistic Decepticon ever and then he suddenly has a problem with the way Decepticons were treating their prisoners even though HE was the one doing it. I could understand his character arc if it was Starscream doing all the evil stuff and Jetfire was objecting to it then, that would make more sense. But Jetfire himself is the one giving all the orders to do all these things only to later suddenly take issue with the other Seekers who are literally just following his own orders. I hated how Jetfire was portrayed in that series cause there was no real arc or character growth, he never gives a real reason for why he switched sides. He just suddenly out of no where does a 180 and suddenly doesn't like that the Decepticons were doing certain things that he had previous taken part in with zero issues. In fact it was usually Starscream who was going against Jetfire which made Starscream seem far less evil. It was like those two characters got the wrong scripts and were reading each other's lines. Cause Siege made Jetfire the leader of the Seekers and Starscream would constantly question his orders when he would want to kill armed Autobots who were no threat. But then later suddenly it was Jetfire who had a problem with that and Starscream was the one giving those same orders. It was really dumb and contradicting. It's weird that BOTH of these Decepticon to Autobot characters are in the same series and one of them is done really well while the other was handled so poorly.

I hate RID 2015 so much and despise it, I don't consider it canon to Transformers Prime and in my own reality, my own take of a sequel for Transformers Prime would be a dark and gritty tone, though not TV-MA but TV-14 and would've borrowed concept from the bayverse movies, examples: An Autobot/Human Alliance organization. My own take of Bumblebee's team would've consisted Smokescreen (Voiced by Sam Worthington) who has matured overtime, Ironhide who is the Heavy Weapons Specialist and is Bumblebee's second in command, and Windblade who is a battle hardened warrior. Human characters in my own take would be adults who have military experience and are led by Yuriko (Rinko Kikuchi) and the organization's General, General Mauser (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Characters from Prime such as Ralph, Jack, Miko, and Fowler would appear, with the former 3 being grown and Folwer being responsible for creation of the Autobot/Human Alliance organization.

Prime had issues with its third season, as i recall there was more planned but the show got cut short so the seasons subtitle doesn't work. There's conflicting information on what happened with the Cybertron games and Prime. One bit i recall was apparently the Prime Writers didn't want to be tied down by existing continuity and thus ignored the games, or just pick what they want to use. A example, when dark energon was fed into the Nemesis to fix it, the ship started talking, yet nobody recognized the voice.

İn most other variations Transformers is mainly aimed towards children and young adults and the plot progression usually reflects that. You can even feel the difference in music. You said that Prime didn't aged as good as the energon or animated. I respectfully disagree, just look at the comments on the soundtrack of TfOne. Music alone can be pointed as the best aspect of Prime but it doesn't settle for just that. İn prime every character shows it's unique aspects with the way they talk and their look. Megatron is the leader of the deceptions yes but he's also the most focused version of himself in this series. He's just as clever and cunning as he's ruthless. Optimus is the most stoic character and for a reason, whether he likes it or not the war between autobots and deceptions will continue as long as he let's the other side get up after a defeat. Like ratchet said he's soft for a bot at his size. Not that's the thing; he's the strongest because he shows mercy. And predaking omg he's one of the most unexpectedly complex characters in this show; he was introduced as an apex predator from the past, a tool for Megatron to hunt down the autobots but within a couple of episodes he showed that he's as complex as the older characters. He has dilemmas, things that he has to face. He also knows that every decision he takes will have a lasting affect on his own kind. He knows this and doesn't even takes a second to rush fpr help while fighting against the unicron. Things happen for a reason in prime, you notice this, characters doesn't need a whole episode to get fleshed out, a few key quotes between characters is enough to give us a clue on whats going on. And it remembers this. Smockscreen gets captured by the cons why?because he was reckless, why because he was scolded by arcee, who felt bad for both of her deceased partners, why?because smokescreen was so eager to join the fight and inadvertently made arcee and her partners look bad, why? Because he's young, he wanted to help, he wanted to help so badly he failed to see his mistakes. Does the show keep him out of focus after this event? No. He successfully retrieves the omega keys, takes a second guess every time he has to do something after, he knows that he needs to be more careful with his decisions, this behavior is the reason why he returned to the base after the extraction at the end of season 2. He disobeyed a direct order from optimus because he knew what was going to happen so instead of trying to scrape by by one by one he wanted to make sure that optimus was safe. Same thing applies for every character, the main reason why optimus destroyed the omega key was an oversight at ratchets end; he ignored the humans and this allowed starscream to use them against the bots. Seriously it's small things like these makes the Transformers Prime a go to recommendation for everyone except the people who expect to see a wider cast with shallower settings. I'm not saying that the other series have shallow characters it's just prie has a deeper story than the most. And it does this with just 3 seasons. I do wish that it was longer, had more characters etc but I can understand why it was as it is. I think the biggest culprit behind this is the marketing and the notion of the connection between the Bayformers and Prime. İt did help with the marketing but it ultimately holded the series from reaching out to its full potential. I think with the right approach Prime could have been the Transformers equivalent of what The Clone Wars is for star wars.

the problem with T-Prime is that the entire drama realize on a war going. Making a sequel to that story is extremely difficult. They should have slowed down at the start and had it focuses on recovering a renewed cybertron and the adversarial problems the growing transformer community has to deal with instead of having it be post the growing period which they mostly got things right. The final should be about saving cybetron from another collapse, perhaps a message of democracy instead of war? solving problem with words first? that could be interesting. But choosing a lighter tone does not fit the setting of transformers. Transformer franchise has always being about war and shying away from it would have you lose what made the franchise unique.

The war is over and now is a time for rebuilding or even post-reconstruction. Something the 1st season of Earthspark seemed to work towards.

I am so glad that I am not the only who realizes the problems with sequels in the Transformers franchise, most notably with the TV shows. I wouldn't call Cybertron a sequel to Energon since it is a dubbed version of the Japanese series Galaxy Force which is not connected to Energon as a whole. Beast Wars & Transformers Prime are among my favorite shows, they have fantastic storylines and well-written characters that you can't help but adore. It sucks that these two masterpieces got terrible sequels in the forms of Beast Machines & RID2015. Both shows had cool concepts, but suffered from awful executions. The character assassinations are even worse as they ruined some of the best characters from the previous shows, such as Rhinox, BW Megatron and Bumblebee, my favorite Transformers (his character assassination hurts me the most). And I don't wanna talk about how they even brought back Optimus Prime from the death, which ruins a perfect conclusion of his character arc, a really stupid decision, in my opinion. Rise of the Beasts was originally a film with separate scripts like the Optimus Prime solo film, Beast Wars & the Avenger-esque Autobot movies, all three of them combined into the one that became Rise of the Beasts. Besides, if a Transformers TV show does have a GOOD sequel, it would be Rescue Bots Academy. Yes, it is a show for preschools and has a short runtime, but it treated its legacy characters with respect, and i really loved the newer cast in the sequel. RBA was able to avoid the pitfalls of the terrible sequels in the Transformers franchise. As for the games, Fall of Cybertron is a solid follow-up to War For Cybertron. As for EarthSpark, you should blame the troubled production since they changed the writing staff of this show. This is where the show went downhill. If TF One ever gets a sequel, I hope it has a GOOD storyline. I hope it does not let me down.

I’d say The Unicron Trilogy got worse after Armada, but while I do think the Bayverse sequels suck I actually Rise of the Beasts was an enjoyable follow up to Bumblebee. It wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t a great movie, but I had a fun time watching it. I wouldn’t say the movie’s the reason why TFOne underperformed, as there’s other reasons why the movie didn’t do well. And while I’m probably one of the few fans who think RID15 wasn’t terrible, I wholeheartedly disagree that Earthspark is a sequel to G1. Although it had G1 references, the show clearly uses them as cheeky nods to the show, but not much else. Earthspark isn’t really a sequel to G1, as it’s actually set in its own continuity. And the show is good, at least for the first season, and while Season 2 was a step down, I don’t really think it was terrible. Same could be said for Season 3.

TF One's main issues also came from the marketing, showing that Hasbro either doesn't seem to care or know what they're doing. However, bad box offices do affect following films like how the Bumblebee movie had a rough start thanks to TLK. There was both too much and not enough going on at the same time with RotB. Needed more focus on the Maximals. It doesn't specifically say it is, but Earthspark comes off as a G1 related show with some tweaks like everyone being on Earth instead of both Earth and Cybertron. Or genderswapping of characters like Skywarp. And taking some references from IDW like Autobot Megatron. I am at least glad Elita gets more screentime. Haven't seen season 3.

Kingdom felt more like key jingling. Although we did get T-posing Ultra Magnus. The toyline was definitely the strong points to come out from there. I'll say this, it was more enjoyable an experience than the Power of the Primes trilogy.

In defense of Beast mechanes, it did present the best version of Megatron, crude, sadistic, over controlling, despite already won, wanted more. Literally brings the fearful look towards till all are one in his quest for godhood. And killer theme. Despite not being the og or necessarily the Megatron, he has accompanied alot despite having little to nothing, accomplish what every other Megatron can't do. Megatron literally carried the show. Definitely wish to see this Megatron again. No, the war for Cybertron version doesn't count. That one so different it may as well be another character.

It was the most successful Megatron we've seen to date. One that turns total defeat into victory conquering Cybertron essentially all on his own. He's far more clever than G1 Megatron, even with all the setbacks from BW.

I really wish we had more information on RiD 2015 turning out the way that it did. I don't necessarily hate the show on its own. But when I think of it as a follow-up to Prime, I just want to know what the creators were on when they made it. There were definitely enough ideas that were cut from Prime that could have easily been used for RiD. I'll never get over how Smokescreen was teased to be the next Prime after Optimus, then all we see of him in RiD is a picture when they were showing everyone the council was blacklisting. I also can't help but wonder why they didn't bring Seaspray back in that show like they were planning to in the third season of Prime. I usually think dead characters should stay dead, but it sounds like Seaspray would have been a cool character. And those are just two of my issues with that show.

There is often more interest in behind the scenes that the actual product itself. It's why drama around Disney media is so popular over the movies. It is a shame when plotpoints get dropped by the following season. A big part of what I theorize is that Hasbro mandated Bumblebee be the main star especially with his popularity from the Bay movies. Note, we have Bumblebee instead of Hot Shot in Animated going forward because of the movies, which is also a kneejerk reaction about losing the trademark on the name like they did when we first ended up with Hot Shot.

What saves Beast Wars was that it wasn't intended as a DIRECT sequel, which seems to be where Transformers has a bad habit of fumbling itself, especially because Hasbro has a bad habit of wanting to somehow have a sequel but also have their cake and eat it too by retconning out as much as possible to sell more toys of popular-but-now-dead-characters. I get that to a certain extent they need to have those characters on shelves due to IP/copyright reasons but this is ridiculous in the era of the Generations toyline existing and almost always having an Optimus/Megatron/Starscream/Bumblebee on shelves in some shape or form.

Beast Wars was the one show the showrunners had no idea where to take it but by end of season 2 they were able to tie it into G1 mostly from, believe it or not, fan criticism. Then it went from "Trukk not Monke" to "this is the greatest show I've ever seen in my life!" Energon fumbled in terms of story moment it talked about Megatron's sword like we don't see the Star Saber mini-con team being used by Kicker multiple times.

I never thought about it before, but you are correct. Transformers has a very poor track record with sequals. However, while I am not a fan of Beast Machines, I will give it credit for trying to introduce new concepts. However the show was held back by poor execution and poor writing. And with all the rubbish TF live action movie sequals, I am not surprised that most people did not see Transformers one, which is a shame because it is a great film.

More a midquel/side story because the events of it take place during the 4 million years after the start of G1 and when the same episode picks up later. If anything, it would fit closer as a prequel because it's setting is so early in the G1 show being the 1st episode.

That could be something to consider. Although, that was more amnesia whereas Optimus here was more aware of himself, his spark was "plucked" before being extinguished by the 13 Primes. But they did nerf him later on to the point he lost almost all his power, possibly some of his brains as well.

In a POV to fan, writers change but when performers stay and know the character why can't the actors be the writers and input why, who and what fans ask and know already. Even in g1 season 3 was like a new show as galvatron' revenge g1 season 1 is the third war. Would it be?

Or at least take into consideration the types of actions said character would take to better understand their personality and how they would act in certain situations. Fan input can be good, but there eventually comes a point where too many cooks ruin the dish.

I mean i get it. Transformers is a toylinr first so you want sequels to create new characters and new appearances because that means new toys to sell. Problrm really is the G1 characters are so iconic and beloved that the toyline will NOT sell without certain g1 characters. They tried to do it with the moviep era of G1 where Ultra Magnus took over as the leader and Hot Rod was the new Bumblebee and Galvatron was the new big bad. That line did NOT do well so they revived and brought the OGs back and the new characters that were supposed to be the new generation were shoved to the backseat. Hasbro HAS to rely on reboots and sequels and stick with sub par material because if the show evolves into more, the toys won't sell. Its sad but its a fact of business. The only time i saw it work was when Shockwave became the new big bad after megatron was usurped and he was TERRIFYING. His Toy sold like hotcakes after and they prolonged his appearances until the story had to end. This was comics btw. Specifically "All Are Gone" storyline

It was also HOW Optimus died in the movie people have issues with, and Hot Rod was the scapegoat for it. But Hasbro needs to understand that GOOD characters are what sell, not MORE characters. When I heard what they did to Starscream in the second season of Earthspark I just pretended there was no second season. Seriously, I love the show but his episode is my favorite! So seeing the development and characterization that was given to him in the episode and in the last episode of the season being thrown in the trash It left me very disappointed! The fact that they forced the Decepticons to be evil for no reason makes me not want Tarantulas to return! The whole point of his character is that he doesn't want war anymore and wants to be left alone! I specifically don't want his bond with Nightshade to be destroyed like they did with Starscream and Hashtag!

This is why Transformers Animated is one of the best Transformers shows ever as that never got a sequel series, as who knows what that could’ve done to the characters, animation style and writing. But yeah I have started to notice abit of pattern when making a transformers sequel series with how most of them are usually incredibly toned down compared to their predecessors. Whether that was because of interference from Hasbro, having very quick productions which in energon’s case often resulting in the animation looking rushed with no effort put into it, or because of creative differences like either making it too light hearted or too dark.

The animation was a bit stiff, but a vast improvement over Energon that it was watchable. The soundtrack was really good. And the storybeats had a good mix of humor and intensity. But it wasn't a good continuation since it was originally it's own story shoehorned into the UT, regardless of how the blackhole coming about would make sense. It just needed a better dub writing team to not make it so lore breaking or at least explain why so much appears to be reset.

Earthspark is not really a sequel to G1, the flashback in the first episode is more of a stylization than literal. At least that's what makes sense to me, considering that the flashback was narrated by the father of the children whose comic books have the style of G1. It's easy to deduce that they're just imagining the flashback.

I can understand how it comes off as less connected to G1 much like the Prime Wars trilogy. ES distances itself enough to feel like it's own series without the original to rely on. Yet it feels like it's trying to be a G1 related story or enough to keep those storybeats. So more an alternate take on G1 but showing the aftermath post-war. It's an issue with a handful of Transformers shows trying to be like G1 without directly saying it is.

Considering we're in a time where "there is no evil" when a side is clearly evil does bad things is the norm (Star Wars). I much prefer how it's done showing the 2 factions are more like soldiers on different sides. Something that has been setup in the G1 character bios. Kind of a petty thing to bring up, but I wish Steve Blum did a higher voice in line with his work voicing General Smytus from My Life as a Teenage Robot whenever he does a Starscream role. Again, I know that's a tad petty, but just about every iteration (I forget how Bey's Starscream sounded, so IDK) had this to the point that it's one of his more key features. Further, the fact that Blum seems to be in everything nowadays means when he goes for a normal if voice for Starscream, he doesn't sound different from the Stormtroopers in Disney's Rebels or Vilgax from Ben 10.
