When I first went to Villa Park as a kid it cost 3 shillings (15p) to get in, no ticket required, a lot of the turnstile operators would let you in for half of that if you jumped the bar or crept beneath it. You could walk around the Holte and Trinity Road to the players tunnel. No roof on the Holte in those days and the catering choice consisted of Tea, Coffee, Bovril and Steak & Kidney pies. Men could piss against the wall rather than queue up for the toilets 'cos there weren't many women around in those days lol. The Witton End (now the North Stand) used to be a grass bank and the Witton Lane Stand (now the Doug Ellis) was wooden seats, the Trinity Road Stand was standing on the lower level and seats above. At night matches I'd stand in the Holte and gaze at the Witton End watching the never ending flicker of lighters and matches as thousands of men lit their cigarettes. The Holte smelt wholesomely of Beer, Piss, Cigarette Smoke, Chips, Sweat and Oil from workers who had just finished Saturday morning shift gone to the Pub and Chip shop before arriving at the match. All the League matches started at 3 o'clock on Saturday and finished at 4.40 p.m., at 4.15 they would open the gates and anyone could wander in for free to watch the last half an hour. After the match we would wander down to the Villa Specials buses lined up outside Aston Hall grounds and be in the City centre by 5.00 p.m. lot of the time not even paying the bus fare 'cos the conductor couldn't get around everyone in time. Then I'd be back home in Bartley Green by 5.40 waiting at the local paper shop for the Sports Argos to arrive, nowadays you'd be lucky to have got out of the car park opposite the Aston Tavern by 6.00 p.m. !!!

50k isn’t anywhere near enough, there’s over 30k on the season ticket waiting list, we should show some real ambition and go for 60+, we’d fill it too. I agree with Heck pausing the development, in this champions league season we need as many fans as possible at Villa Park so let’s hold it back, revise the capacity upwards and get the stadium we desperately need. If it was me I’d build another Holte End or bigger, we’ve got tons of space behind. UTV

@@thejlgamer1480 No mate its been cancelled, these were Purslow's plans. We have spent £30m on refurbishing the hospitality, Heck's job was to increase revenue and he's done that without the need of temporary reducing our capacity. It was confirmed at the FAB that the work has been cancelled, its Heck's sleazy way of doing it which has caused so much confusion, everyone just thinks its "on hold" when sadly nothing could be further from the truth, Heck has cancelled the North stand, he thinks 43/44k is enough
