Beautiful tree. Thanks for the tip about wiring the jins downward. You're right, many jins jut upward and don't follow the flow of many trees.

the mature mountain hemlocks we have on the west coast have quite horizontal branches

near the beginning he was talking about some bug that was killing hemlock trees. I wonder do you think that the droughts we've had lately might have something to do with it? These trees are water mongers afterall.

This infestation started many many years before the drought. I think it has more to do with climate change and human activity

Is it acceptable to have a branch right in front and after the first branch and at the same level as the 2nd branch?

If there is an empty space that needs to be filled it's acceptable to fill it with a branch no matter where it is

Bonsai is the art of pruning but once the pruning is completed you must wire the tree into shape to give it a look of age and elegance

One could argue that the needles kind of look like the old plastic Christmas trees. I like the variety even more for that reason😂
