The movement you've put into that is lovely 😍 it's going to look amazing once it's more ramified and the trunk is a bit thicker.

The roots were packed in the old pot which was obviously too small for the tree considering that you are in the development phase. In this kind of situation you remove the old soil, at least partially, spread the roots and put a slate under the tree so you encourage the creation of a nice nebary. At this stage, this step is very very important, otherwise, it is going to be difficult to repair this in the future. This is just an example of what a beginner should NOT do! But the video is nicely edited with peaceful music in the background...

Is your reason for up-potting to promote growth and thickening? Will you identify the fertilizer pellets and the source? I personally like the elegant grace of thin trunks with interesting line.
@the_greenbobАй бұрын
Exactly! Up-potting helps promote both growth and thickening of the trunk, especially in the early development stages of bonsai. The fertilizer pellets I use are slow-release, organic and sourced locally, perfect for providing steady nutrients. I also appreciate the elegance of thin trunks, they have a truly unique grace. Thank you for your comment!

Also what were the black chunks you put in the middle of the pot? Thx
@the_greenbobАй бұрын
They are pieces of coal. Charcoal regulates the pH of the soil, absorbs harmful substances such as and is colonized by good bacteria. Try it, a normal grill charcoal is enough, if you want you can also make it smaller by chopping it up.

@@the_greenbob oh, the mesh for the bottom of the pot to keep the soil from falling through the hole.
@HolzhandАй бұрын
@@NoQuarter01 I once bought this mesh for the gutter. To keep it clean from Leaves and other stuff. Works just fine for bonsai too. It is made of plastic.

that's right it's a simple plastic net. :-)

Personally I would certainly not advise to add pieces of charcoal to the soil. Maples prefer a slightly acidic medium and charcoal works against that. I know that maples aren't very fussy about the soil, especially when the drainage is (very) good. But adding charcoal? Would not be my choice, to be honest... Good luck!
@the_greenbobАй бұрын
HI! Yes, you are right, maples prefer slightly acidic soil, in fact I also add pine bark to the soil to acidify it. Let's say I put both so that the soil remains "slightly" acidic but not too much. I also feel comfortable with charcoal because it absorbs potentially harmful substances. Obviously these are all experiments but so far the maples I've put it on have never shown any signs of suffering. Thanks for your time. See you soon!
