Throughout the State of Michigan many lake front properties have a hardened seawall (steel, poured concrete, boulders, etc). This 'old school' approach to protecting shorelines deflects wave energy, which disrupts the natural transition between water and the land. Vertical walls physically block access to and from the water for turtles, frogs, ducks, and many other animals. This connection is vital for these animals to feed, rest, and nest.
At Inhabitect, we do things differently when dealing with the forces of Mother Nature. On this project we coupled eco-friendly components and plant materials that provide a natural, vegetated buffer on this residential property. We removed a steel sea wall and replaced it with a bioengineered natural shoreline that is planted with 100% native plant material. A full length tutorial of this project is coming soon!
As Certified Natural Shoreline Professionals with a growing portfolio, we provide a solution much closer to what nature intended, while not compromising your vision for the property. Our installations look great, are low impact, and can be used for: ponds, inland lakes, the Great Lakes coastline, as well as the banks along rivers, streams, or tributaries.
