Painted furniture has been around for hundreds of years, some people like it some don’t. I say have what you love in your home. I love both types and I have both types in my home. That buffet was absolutely gorgeous. I love the color. You did a fantastic job! Hello from America,

Thanks for the comment! So true that painted furniture has been around for ever basically 😅 but this piece was perfect for this project as it was already collecting dust in a cold garage 🫣

Halfway through the sanding I was thinking "there's some really nice detail in the wood under all that old varnish on the doors and drawer fronts of that sideboard; I bet it'll look great when it's refinished" and then the paint came out and covered it all up again. I can't deny that the end result looks really good though.

I also think the details were beautiful and the craftsmanship is on another level. Sadly this piece wouldn’t sell easily in my area if just refinished. Often paint is the only way to save the furniture and actually find it new home

Normally I don't mind painted furniture, and this does look really nice. But I wish I hadn't seen that beautiful wood grain first. I would have loved to have seen that richness brought out! At least you saved it from the trash and maybe the next owner will restore it now that it has been given a new life and will likely be around for another fifty or sixty years.
@secondartz7 ай бұрын
As much as I loved the wood grain, unfortunately it would be hard to sell in my area. But this piece is definitely meant to live for another 50-60 years 🤞🏻

I thought it was a crime until I saw the result 🤭 but I haven’t paid attention if you sealed the wood? Bc I think even with the worst damage it’s always nice to preserve an opportunity to restore a piece later on, without having all the wood clogged with paint 😊

Wow. That is a perfect color. Restoring is long and hard process, so this was good piece for painting. I love the color. Nice flip.

This was one of the longest and most difficult flips I’ve done so far 🤯 glad you like it! 🤩

Зачем Вам знать из какого дерева сделан комод? Вы же всю красоту дерева закрыли краской. Абсурд.
@secondartz7 ай бұрын
I asked since I like to learn. And the paint can easily be removed if someone wants to restore it in the future

I was so hoping you were going to not paint this and bring the wood back to its natural beauty. However, the end result in this case was beautiful ❤

Unfortunately there were to many damages for me to bring the wood back to life. But the deep green looked great in real life 🦚
@meepenjaap79997 ай бұрын
I think it looks great. Love the dark olive color. Would have needed to see up close picture to see what the wood was. One thing to mention you could have used plain shellac for sealing instead of the white pigmented BIN. Then there won't be white pigment imbedded in the wood fibers for the next refinisher.
@secondartz7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately clear shellac is very hard to come across here in Sweden, almost impossible to find. So white shellac is the only option for now 😮💨

It's not a crime to paint furniture that is as damaged as this piece. You did a very professional painting of the furniture and it looks 10x better. The dark green with brass hardware is stunning
@secondartz6 ай бұрын
Thanks! It was indeed very damaged and It wouldn’t be worth it for me to restore it to its original look
@karyndekeiser-moulton12137 ай бұрын
It’s not a crime but it had beautiful veneer! Maybe a partial paint on the bad parts and stained finish on the good parts. All in all it turned out great!
@secondartz7 ай бұрын
I agree that the veneer was beautiful. Would I have stained it though, I wouldn’t be able to sell it in my area, sadly 🥲
@cliffhorman68467 ай бұрын
Beautiful finish. If vintage furniture is in such bad shape its paint or landfill in the end. You saved it.
@secondartz7 ай бұрын
That’s definitely true. And enough furniture ends in the landfill already

Don't be sorry. Apparently it's pretty common practice in eastern Europe. Maybe because they still have so many of them? Some of the most stunning pieces I've seen are from there (Russia, Romania etc) but they destroy them with chalk paint and decoupage 😢🤮 It's ludicrous. Zero respect for the artisans who built them.
