We’re all here because we have great taste in music
@anomalogue Жыл бұрын
You want to know your real identity, as opposed to your social categorization? Ask: What music do you *really* love? This doesn't give us "identity", but it does show us an unsayable affinity among souls, and that, not identity, is what we most need.

my dad used to always play this album when i was little and i’m here right now trying to bring it all back
@rebeccahopkins95223 жыл бұрын
I used to play it when my two kids were really little. When it first came out, I played the whole album the whole summer, running the kids up and down the shore in my old jeep. And over the years I’d play it every now and then. Then last summer, after years and years of not hearing it, my now grown son pulled up to my house in his Camaro for a visit, and when he opened his car door, this track came pouring out of the car. And we started singling it, right in the driveway. He said he has a lot of good childhood memories to this album too. Always think of my kids when they were little when I hear it. We loved it then. We love it still.

Still one of the most effective and visceral openings to an album I've ever heard. I remember when my music teacher in highschool put in on the cd player one day. She brought the album for me she said she liked my taste in music and thought I might like it. As soon as it started I knew I was hooked.. To my surprise it wasnt even the best song on the album. I instantly went out and bought it and listened to it religiously on my walkmen and throwing it in all of my friends cd players. It came with a lyric booklet it the cd cover as well. Blew my mind how poetic it all was. For me I u understood what it meant, it was a spiritual out poor of emotion.. "The Shins get me" I thought...

Has to be one of the top 5 greatest albums of all time, ever. And I do mean ALBUM - listening to it uninterrupted from start to finish is infinitely better than any individual song in isolation, as genius as they all are in their own right. What a masterpiece! Pretty sure Mercer is the greatest musician since John Lennon.

This song reminds me of high school but in a good way. I remember waking up early because I couldn’t live at my dads house anymore since he moved away, so I lived with my grandmother and my uncle would pick me up real early for high school, since my cousin got to pick what we listened to in the morning on her iPod, we would always listen to the Shins, the Strokes, Sublime, or something that is very comforting to me now.
