We'll take a short dive into the world of light reactive lenses and the crazy mirrors and fun we can have with them! A lens for every need, that's my style!!
Adjusting your own glasses 101 - nose pads and the pressure points. Remember, be very careful when doing this as it's easy for pliers to slip and scratch a lens! It's best to let a professional handle it when possible, but sometimes that's difficult, I totally get it! Those special pliers at the beginning are best for this job and prevent any chance of scratching, but they're far from cheap. A set of basic needle nose pliers can handle most of the pad arm adjustment.
*Watch for special mounting of pads with nylon or cheap metals, as these can easily be failure points!*

Nice video! I got my mirrored photochromic lenses a little over a year ago. (They’re Transitions Xtracive with pink flash mirror) I got an anti-glare coating to the inside face of the lenses so I don’t have that reflection problem to the extent that your gold pair have here. I actually wear mine full time, inside and out, except when I’m driving at night (I’ve got a backup pair for that!) I’m a guy so I felt like pink was a risk but went with them because they were the closest to an iridescent look. I don’t regret them but I think I want an actual mirror coating now!

These have an anti reflective backside as well, the difference is the density of the mirror and the color of the reflection and how much of that color falls within our visible spectrum :) My red pair I can wear full time no problem. Just note, when you increase mirror density, you do increase reflections. 😁 particularly for sensitive eyes these can be a good to great daily wear, but I always hesitate to recommend it due to the sensitivity of some to the reflections 🙂

Hi guys I just picked up a pair of glasses with transition extractive mirror style lenses by colo copper like the video, but I have persistent reflections on the sides of the lenses even in artificial light inside the house ... why this problem? is it a lens problem or is it normal? I hope you can help me

Normal for those lenses. That's why I never advise them as an only pair.

Great video. Can you please tell me which colors for the mirror works without the reflection/glare problem. I got xtractive brown with gold mirror and I'm getting g a reflection issue which is even worse at nightime

These were never intended to be a full time only pair due to the increase in reflections. It's inherent to all of them, but least noticeable at the far ends of the light spectrum, i.e. blue and red :)

Sorry , i didnt understand the difference between the first pair and the second. It sounded like both were transitions with flash coating . What specifically do you ask for when you want a pair the same as the second pair ?

I have, but gold wouldnt be my first choice honestly. Look wise yes it always keeps a good bit of flashiness and that slight blue tint as seen due to the mirror density. A gold flash would be better, (lower density) but because so much of the reflected light for a gold mirror is within our visible spectrum, it's more noticeable than some of the other options like red. For an additional pair, no problem to wear all day. For an ONLY pair. I would be EXTREMELY hesitant. :) I hope this helps you! 😎

Which is better for photofusion lenses, the flash mirror or a full mirror? (It's possible I'm misunderstanding the products) I'd like to get a warm blue or rose from my perspective but obviously cool factor is important

Flash mirror for a more subtle and wearable affect, but you'll need to combine that with the more reactive variant, as the mirror blocks some of the uv and doesn't let the lenses activate as easily :) green over grey will give you a rose shift, and warm blue would be a red mirror over a green lens 🙃

Certainly, it will have very similiar properties. The colors at the far ends of what we can see are best if attempting to wear full time (red/blue).

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 hey! I am going from one guy to the other to find someone that makes me my glasses. I now heard that the mirror transitions would not function perfectly as transitions because of the mirror o.O I think that's bullshit isn't it.

@@Diplomato it does affect how the transitions work, and is best combined with any of the extra reactive varieties that work off fo more than just UV. Largely only an issue with the blue and purple mirrors. The short explanation is the mirror reduces UV light passing through it, and since transitions largely darken off of UV, thus the speed of darkening and darkness of transitions in some cases. Just the simple nature of placing a filter in front of a reactive component. But, as I mentioned, not enough performance reduction to really matter. 🙂 I have several pairs that are both standard and extra reactive varieties and all work quite well 😁 (in a tight spot take glasses off and expose the backside to the sun.. since the mirror is on the front over the transitions layer) class dismissed. 🤣

Absolutely. What you're asking would be called a flash mirror within the industry, below 30% reflectance... you can get even lower these days and whats called a "black mirror" is just a super low reflectsnce silver mirror. As well as many blue blocking anti reflective coatings really only being a low reflectance blue front side mirror (12-15%). Many many many ways to make it happen 😁

Not at all. There are a variety of color choices available these days, and any mirror color can be added to any transitions color :)

Do these still block blue light? I just ordered some Transitions Active with the Red mirror. I hope they look like yours when outside. I, in getting red, have thought I should have gotten blue mirrors instead.

Not likely they'll look quite like this. These aren't the off the shelf transitions style mirrors formula :). Those use Transitions XtrActive as the base, and as such do block a good portion of blue light regardless of the chosen mirror (of course the blue mirror does add to this affect)

@@ThatGlassesGuy03 Question for you since you do this, so I just order red Transitions with a red mirror. At the last minute they said that a red coating with a gray transition wouldn't work. So they asked if I wanted blue. I said "Yes. Go with blue." Well, I'm set to pick them up in three hours and they have grey transitions with red mirror. Are these going to be effective? Will they actually look red? Will they still block ad much blue light as a blue mirror will? I ask because they told me they could do them again if I chose. Thank you in advance.

The blue light blocking from a mirror alone is minimal, but the transitions formulation blocks some blue too, I wouldn't worry about that part too much. It will really come down to how they ordered them, lens material, prescription, and who made them, I wouldn't expect them to turn out exactly like mine :)

One thing I wasn't clear on... are you saying that the mirror finish on the gold pair is reflecting the ceiling lights into your eyes in a way that's distracting? If so, would you say that the first pair doesn't reflect the lights into your eyes at all, or is it just that it's subtle enough that you don't really notice it?

You understood that correctly, and on the first pair it's just far less pronounced. I very rarely, if ever, wear those indoors.

Would you still wear the first pair indoors sometimes, or do you find the reflections are still enough to bother you? I've been thinking of getting a silver flash mirror over grey photochromic (such as Zeiss Duravision Flash Diamond over Photofusion Grey or Extra-Grey). I'm just trying to figure out what the downsides to this combo might be, if any. Glasses are confusing sometimes.

@@ceruleanstone it's the spectrum limitations, silver would be as miserable as the gold.. same for green. Blues and reds are at the far end of the spectrum and less bothersome. Both are "flash" mirrors. The easiest way to dabble with it would be the blue light coatings.. so for your example the zeiss photochromic of choice with the zeiss blue protect coating :) this gives you 1) a far blue spectrum reflectance 2) a lower reflectance than most standard mirrors clocking in at an average of 12-13% reflectance 😁 Hope that helps! 😁

You won't find options like that from budget retailers online or brick and mortar. I offer it for my remote fit clients, many boutiques offer it as well in person 🙂.

Hello, i just got this xtractive transitions with silver mirror, I found yours backside reflects all light from behind too as mine, and it really annoy me. Could you apply another AR coating on the backside of this type lenses if you want to? Thanks for the sharing BTW.

Hi Lin, unfortunately no. Those already have a backside anti reflective layer, but it's just not enough to defeat the reflectivity of the front side mirror. That's why I refer to this as primarily a good second pair or pair for more outdoor oriented use to get the added glare reduction and darkness mirror coatings offer, with a light variable lens. It CAN be worn indoors, but it's far from ideal. The best version is infinite gray with a mirror coating as you get a lens that always has a pretty decent residual tint, and is polarized, but gets super dark as well.

I don't suspect both sides are mirrored, but these can very often give the impression and feeling that this is the case. They create a TON of internal refleciotn within the lenses.

it varies pretty widely depending on the options chosen and the lenses they're going on, in the US lenses (excluding frame) like this would range anywhere from several hundred dollars to over a thousand.

That is, unfortunately. It's more noticeable still in the style mirrors blue. This is actually an added benefit of the lens blocking some blue spectruk visible light from passing through the lens creating a warm mired shift of light. Cool stuff... well, I think at least 😅

I go back and forth. Love having the mirrors pair for fun, and excellent as a primarily outdoor pair for variable light. My newest lenses are good ole Corning thin and dark. So far loving them! Actually gets nice and dark but not obtrusive indoors when going back clear

That Glasses Guy the thing is Matt we have multiple pairs of eyewear all covering our fashion needs as well as vision needs. Most people buy one pair and use them for far too long. Then add in the lack of intelligence of the staff at the average optical store and you have a recipe for disaster. Transitions and mirror is a bad idea and we all know it. But the paid for drones (brand ambassadors) are going to tell everyone they’re the best thing since sliced bread. Since they get a slice of the action for every pair they sell.

That Glasses Guy I don’t know about you but my clients love their progressives. I do know there are a lot of not so intelligent people working in most Opticals especially in the unlicensed states. The only training given is what to sell this month that makes the most money for the office.
