We've lost the art to speak like this, with pauses, with premeditation, with gentleness. The Professor is old, but it's not his old age that influences his delivery, it's a lost art of articulation and culture of speech. If you listen recordings from the 60's, people spoke differently, with grace. I like to study languages with FSI courses, and it's very evident from their recordings. I live in Germany now and it makes me want to cry, how much the language has deteriorated compared to how it used to sound. It was majestic!

Not just Abdel Haleem but all those Translators, who are by birth Arabs, also tamper translation. I have talked to several Arab PhDs whom PhDs were in Islamic theology, but they were more ignorant than even a villager who never attended school. Problem is in their curricula which they follow during their BA or MA or PhD. That curricula is based on forged concocted books. So their PhD's are only for selling lies.

If we ever asked a question we were told that we were rude and should not question elders. With all due respect to the honorable Doctor.. it is necessary for people to learn arabic.. we spend so many years of our lives in western education just to earn money learning algebra and chemical equations and other things that we have no use of for our normal lives and we can't spend a year or two learning Arabic... Rather the simple fact is a Muslim uneducated in arabic is uneducated... whether people can stomach that or not its the truth.. Muslims in India used to learn Arabic and Persian as part of mainstream education before the Brotish came. The same is the case with traditional education in South East Asia and Turkey and Iran.

And during translation; in order to RECONCILE those beliefs with Quran, they tamper translation of Quran. This is why: On this planet; you will not find even one translation which is free of tampering

As a non native Arab speaker, one or two years of learning Arabic seem far from being enough to learn enough Arabic to appreciate Quran. Indeed. Indian Muslims insisted on pious ignorance under the British and so were swept aside without a second thought. Generational harm courtesy of ideologues posing as rightly guided. It's an old story.
@redbeardandfriends2 ай бұрын
Salaam! @ahmadjuwayni6256 With all due respect to you,Brother you are correct that Muslims should be learning the language of the Quran. But to say that they are uneducated is not accurate. The understanding of the language of Quran could be evidence for a person or against a person. The Quraish at the time of Revelation understood the language of the Quran but they rejected it and fought against its implementation. If you understand the language of the Quran but you don't implement it in your life then you are in jahiliyya, even if you are engineer, doctor, or PhD in whatever, you are in a state of deep ignorance! So it is obligatory that while a non arab is trying to learn his or her Deen they need to be able to understand what the Quranic ayaat mean in order to make the effort to implement it in their lives.So learning the language and implementing it one's life go hand n' hand! May Allah guide us into full submission to His Will and may Allah unite our hearts and minds, and may He give us the correct understanding of His Deen, and give us the taufiiq to implement it in our lives, Ameen!

I agree with you; I did it; I learned Arabic intensively for 3 years (not from zero though; I have some basics) until I reached a point where, when I perform shalat or when I recite al-quran, I understand the meaning of the ayats that I recite. It's a game-changer for my Eeman. It feels like you had a personal conversation with Allah, Oh my God. It changes every aspect of my life; the way I see and deal with this dunya has completely changed. If I was offered Elon Musk's wealth in exchange for giving up or eradicating my Arabic knowledge, I would say, 'No way!' You can go to hell with your money.".

This is a nice interview. May Allah bless him for his work; surely millions of people have and continue to benefit from it. His view on tafseer is interesting though. There is a definitely a need for tafseer especially where someone might be confused about a verse, to understand the legal injunctions of the Quran together with the Sunnah, and to deepen one's understanding of the Quran in general. But if he meant the tafseer does not need to be referred to for attaining guidance from the Quran or to increase one's faith, then that is likely correct I think.

My advice to non-arabic speakers is to learn arabic, because the best way to understand the Quran, is to read it and feel it in Arabic, any transltions is merely the translator's interpretation of what they understood. The Quran has much more depth than the shallow translation of its words , it speaks to your soul directly and its meaning will fit your own situation or problem or difficulties.

Alhamdulillah for this episode and bringing Professor Haleem on the show! His approach makes so much more sense in terms of reaching English speaking audiences. If one wants a word for word translation, and/or transliteration, or versions with tafsir, those are available, but just to be able to read it in English, without a smattering of transliterated words (intimidating to some non-Muslims), often with further explanation in lengthy parenthesis, and footnotes just to make sense of a sentence or concept is awkward, "jerky", as Prof Haleem says, doesn't flow, confusing, and frustrating to read, particularly the translation I am referring to. Although I admire their attempt, I would not recommend it for non-muslims...seasoned Muslims, sure, and it is the one that is frequently given out in dawah. I have likewise heard the same complaint from non-muslims about the seemingly switching themes of the Quran, given the way most translators treat it (verse after verse), but the use of paragraphs and indentation in the English translation, makes more sense, and flows better, to an English reader. I noticed immediately in Prof. Haleem's translation, in the Fatiha, he translates Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem as "Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy", which I have heard Shaykh Muhammad Al-Yaqoubi explain it similarly, as there are subtle distinctions between both names, though they share the same root word. Thank you Professor Haleem for your wonderful work! We are fortunate to have you among us! Mabrook! Alhamdulillah! Ma'sha Allah!

محمد غندر لماذا نزل القرآن باللغة العربية ؟ Quran revealed in Arabic language; The words of Quran in itself miracle ; unmatched and unrivaled so that its difficult to translate briefly, concisely and perfectly; some good meanings might be lost in translation, so that you must refer to the Arabic version of Quran, Quran ;we only could explain throughout generations not only the first or second generation ; each one word in Quran packed with meanings to bring new meanings and new signs for each generation!!!uniquely evolving through time of reading ; Quran is a miracle in itself!!!!!!!!! Please read it carefully, more and more!!!!!!!!! The word Quran means :to be read all over your lifetime patiently and carefully , even if it is one verse, You will discover what that amazes you, and signs that prove that Quran revealed from God !!!! So that it called Quran that means to be read carefully time and again to discover new signs and miracles!!!! It's enough for anyone to comprehend one or two Quranic Verses to be reassured that Quran is not the making of a man, or even the whole of mankind together , and that is still a standing challenge from Allah to all mankind and Jinn to bring a book like glory Quran!!!!!!!. but they could not!!!! بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم قُل لَّئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَىٰ أَن يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا (سورة الاسراء88) (chapter no. 17 verse no 88) "Say :" if mankind and Jinn come together to produce the like of this Qura'n, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they help (support) one another. " .... .... Quran have revealed in brief of everything ;the best of ethics, good values, the best stories of wisdom, and history and literature, economy, judgment, future events and references of sciences in sociology, psychology, monuments, geology, oceanic, sea, rivers, topography, cosmology, space, physics, atom, Big bang, black hole stars, climate change and also the corruption of the planet earth by some of the rich who are excessive in their conducts, And countless else to the degree we need thousands of books to explain what in the glory Quran, so that its enough for ordinary people to comprehend one or two verses to be rest reassured that Quran has been revealed to Muhammad from God (Allah) . محمد غندر
