If you visit Peterborough you could start at Dundas Station, take the YUS down to Union take the Lakeshore East Train to Oshawa take the 88 Peterborough/Oshawa to the Terminal and then take Peterborough Transit 4 Weller to the lift locks and watch boats use it.

Nice journey. That's actually fairly quick to get between Toronto and Orangeville by transit. Just under 2 hours. How frequently does the 37 bus run? They should also run it hourly every day and on weekends

7 buses during the weekday with waiting times between an hour and 3 hours, along with a 6 hour gap.
