Transmetal Cheetor (Random Review)

Yellow generally means "caution", therefore yellow characters mean "Caution: kid appeal character ahead!" I love the entire Transmetal line, I think they're all excellent toys. I believe it's a misnomer to label them has having "third modes" since they're closer to added action features than an actual conversion, and in that context they mostly turn out pretty good IMO. But what really makes them important was that they gave the characters a reason to transform into beast mode in the show, because the conditions in season 1 that required transformation no longer applied afterwards. So in that respect I've come to appreciate them more.

Even though I appreciated the original designs much more I loved this trans metal 1 version of cheetor especially his animal mode being able to fly.

You missed a couple parts to the flight mode. There's a slide-out bit in the thruster, and you're supposed to flip the tail around to give him a teeny tiny fin on the back that couldn't possibly be of any use whatsoever.

Seems we're going full circle. Transformations started dirt simple(G1), got a bit better(Beast wars), hit the perfect area.(Cybertron, and classics), overly complex (Movies), got in the perfect area again (Generation, titans return, etc), a bit better (RID.) So it seems to me that the next toys based off of a TV show, will likely be G1 esk.

TJ: Why are the kid appeal characters always yellow? Me: They're not. Only most of them are yellow, not all of them. Nightscream was actually meant to replace Cheetor as the kid appeal character in Beast Machines. Side Burn was the kid appeal character in RID1. Energon Ironhide, strangely enough was actually meant to replace Hot Shot as the kid appeal character. Blades is mostly white and appears to be the kid appeal character for Rescue Bots. Also while I don't really think it should really be called a vehicle mode, the fold out wings on Cheetor have always made me wander why we never got a repaint of this figure as a Maximal version of G1 Tracks. He also had a third mode that was basically just his car mode with wings so I can't help but to see this guy as Tracks.

TJ, if I remember the instructions correctly, for the vehicle mode, you also popped off the tail, flipped it over, and put it back in to form a sort of tail fin for the vehicle mode.

There are extensions on his thrusters you forgot to pull out, and if you reverse the transformation properly you get his arm cannon. Thats kind of similar to how primal got his turret that was unadvertised on the toy. This is by far the best cheetor figure. It has a decent alt mode, show accurate robot mode, great articulation, and a slightly more involved transformation.

I remember wanting this toy so badly as a kid but never being able to find it. I never got the original version either and only got the trans metal 2 cheetor which was my least favorite cheetor design on beast wars but just settled for it cuz cheetor was my absolute favorite character. But I’m so happy that hasbro released the much more screen accurate war for cybertron version that I just picked up and got a rush of nostalgic joy finally having the original cheetor version toy

I never saw the Transmetal vehicle modes as actual vehicle modes, and I don't think that's what they were ever intended to be. I always saw them as transport modes, which I think is was the original intent. I've only ever heard them described as actual vehicle modes by reviewers who complain that they don't work as vehicle modes.

Yellow pretty gender neutral & non threating, it fairly common in nature without being taken for granted like earth tones or greens. Plus lost of animals including people have yellow/golden hair or skin.

If someone wants to really defend the "cheetah" label, they could argue that the various areas with circular molding are meant to be the spots. But that's a stretch.

My Transmetal Cheetor has had a loose forearm pretty much since I got it as a kid. Probably because I was a stupid kid and used to imitate the parts of the show where the robots got blown apart, abusing the ball joints in the process. about a year or so ago, I made the mistake of trying to fix the joint with superglue. I do not recommend doing this. Learn from my fails.

Well, I don't know. While his other molds weren't all that great, I did like the Transmetals 2 form as the saber-tooth tiger. I especially liked him in the show since he started to become a badass.
