I have been through this on my 19 gt and that remote mount shifter is 99% of your problem. The spongy bushing on the back of the shifter and the tail of the transmission let the two move so far out alignment that the shifter linkage cannot properly engage gears, these bushings seem to get softer over time and make the problem worse. -A steeda transmission mount bushing insert and shifter mount bushing worked wonders for me, it's like I installed a whole new shifter, shifts are accurate now. 2nd used to be a hard southwest pull, now it is straight back, 3rd was a gamble on whether I would hit the gates or not, this is all fixed now and it cost less than a 100 bucks. -A blowfish bracket will accomplish the same thing as the bushings but costs alot more, an MGW or Barton shifter would work as well but again, cost alot more and install is difficult. -Take note gear lockouts under racing conditions are still possible if your clutch and pressure plate are overheated from repeated hard launches and/or excessive slipping under heavy throttle, in this case the clutch assembly just needs to be allowed some time to cool for normal operation to return, this applies to pretty much all manual transmissions.

Mt82 3rd gear grind is definitely real. This car wants 3k-4K rpm going into third. It doesn’t do well with hard acceleration, high rpm going into 3rd. It really shines on highway driving and downshifting back into 3rd. Overall, the engine is the star in this car and the transmission is the limiting factor.

I bought a used 2018 GT with PP1 and the MT82 Manual.... car only had 7k miles on it. I felt like since I got the car, I can either shift it really fast and be kinda all over the place.... or shift it a little slower and be smooth as silk... one or the other, not both. I've had that gear grind sensation only once or twice going into 3rd gear and that was going balls out entering a highway. From your videos, I definitely feel like you can drive it harder & shift it faster than me. I will tell you I think the MT82 is a very loud and weird transmission. I'm not saying it's going to take a dump on us prematurely, but it's definitely not a smooth or quiet transmission. Apples & Oranges comparison, but I also have a 2019 Ford Fiesta ST as a second vehicle. Obviously it has less than half the HP and is a turbo charged 4-cylinder motor.... but with that manual transmission, you can lean on it so hard... power-shift it, and go crazy with it all day long and never grind any gears or have it make any weird noises. It has an absolutely fantastic stock 6-speed manual transmission and clutch setup. I've been driving manual transmission cars only for about the last year and really learned on the Fiesta and another slow car. Would definitely not recommend a Mustang GT with the MT-82 as a car for someone to learn their first manual on.... You didn't do anything wrong to your car and you can definitely drive it well. I just think it's a Manual that has a lot of baggage attached to. Definitely makes a lot of noise and not really refined. I would still take it over the 10-Speed Automatic though, too many gears for me... always shifting and you never get the full exhaust note experience like you do in the manual. Good video man.

I agree with everything you just said man! I certainly appreciate the message. The MT-82 is definitely a weird one, hopefully a new shifter will help out! I've had my mt82 for a month. I think the problem is rev hang. I have to shift slowly to let the revs drop. Then it will smoothly go into gear and not have resistance or bucking. Did not have this issue with my 06 gt. I like shifting fast but my car doesn't lol. On my sport bike I don't even need the clutch just pressure on the shifter and blip the throttle. It's awesome.
@woods74387 ай бұрын
You are correct, if you aren’t racing, a slower shift will serve you well with the mt82. It’s not a bad transmission, just needs a few small things. If you need to shift that fast then you need to go to a barton or mgw. I can say changing the fluid with BG Syncroshift II made a huge difference.

Was it a part of that class action? I just got one and that engine destroying that transmission.

@@Full_Metal_Mike no, mine was a private lawsuit. Is yours still under warranty?

Im so limited to what car I can buy because I only wanna drive a manual. I can't imagine not having a third pedal or rowing gears. I drive 40k a year and dread having to drive a auto. This 82 is really fucking my ass. Im not buying a auto stang... What the fuck else is there to buy

Chinese made Getrag transmission. There is now a class action lawsuit against Ford for this piece of junk transmission. Get on board.

Ok guys I got the solution, I used Amsoil DCT fluid, I have the MT-82 the transmission feels soooooo smooth no more grinding or lock out, before that I used BG syncro shift 2 it was horrible, I will post an update after 1000 miles.

Your issue is torque flex. The factory shifter is attached to the body. Get a shifter kit that attaches the shifter to the trans and problem solved. I had this issue with my 2014 GT.

The main problem with the 2016 to 2020 GT Mustang 6-speed manual is the gearing. It sucks. The 10-speed auto is unbelievable. Do some research.

More than questioning yourself why you didn't buy an automatic, I would be asking myself why I bought a Ford LOL - I doubt a 10-speed Ford automatic transmission would be free of issues.

@@coderomes you cursed me you SOB. I traded my mustang for a new 2020 GT PP1. Only 18 miles when I picked it up. I babied the car and doing the proper break in. I'm at 150 miles and it shudders from a dead stop to first or reverse. Feels like the clutch plate is hopping.
