I just found your videos and subscribed to your channel. Grateful to have found this one and I'm watching the deconstruct of the Glastron. My Dad had one of these boats back in the day. His had a 75hp Johnson Stinger outboard on it. Fish/Ski type boat as it was labeled. I was in the USAF 71-76 and whenever I came home on leave we caught lots of speckled perch (crappie) out of that boat! She was a beauty. Thank you for posting the whole story about this one.

I'm doing the same exact job right now on 76 cv 16. I had to talk to the boat and the stringers and everything cut out all in one 12 hour day, my wood was really crumbling though you could scoop it out with the spoon which made things easier I think. Looking forward to the update video

thanks I could go the seacast rout but think the foam would be a little easier that stuff doesn't pour as well the glass is in great condition and i am able to simply pull the wood right out in one piece is not really rotten but think the original bond when manufactured was probably bad poor mixture or some water just delaminated it I like the idea of having no wood in there. I may just make a test piece and see how strong it will be hit with a hammer, run it over with my truck maybe submerge it it water for a day or two had see if i can get it to fail

What kind of cutting blade are you using with that osolating tool. I bout a Dremel like that and the blades would cut good for about 7 min then not cut anything. It was a wood/drywall blade.

+My Damn Channel I took the cheap route and used this www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/oscillating-tools/oscillating-multi-tool-68861.html and then I bought some of these blades - www.harborfreight.com/1-18-in-bi-metal-multi-tool-reduced-shank-plunge-blade-61821.html and www.harborfreight.com/3-12-in-High-Speed-Steel-Multi-Tool-Half-Moon-Blade-61815.html

@@jmink thanks for the Killer Videos!!! Follow up to the Oscillating tool...when you cut the stringers with it, is there any science to it? Do you just set the blade on the hull and slice off the stringer? I'm terribly nervous to make a mistake.

Do you still have the transom pattern? I’m doing the same boat.

Hello, whats the name of the tool you used for cutting out the transom and stringers? Thanks. I have been offered a glaston v156 for free that needs a lot of work and am using your very helpful videos to give me an idea how and where to start :)

Great videos, keep em coming! I just have a couple of questions...what kind of respirator are you wearing? Do you find it pretty comfortable and easy to breathe through, especially when wearing it for extended periods? I'm looking to buy one soon. Also, what kind of gloves are you wearing? They look like standard rubber gloves but they most be pretty strong to not tear when working with the wood. Is there a particular size glove you wear? Good luck with your project!

ijks2010 Thanks liking my videos! The respirator that I use is this one right here >>www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009363G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it is supposed to be ideal for all the different things I have been and will continue to be working on with the boat. As far as breathing with it (speaking for myself) is noticeably different. Mainly it is like your nostrils are working a little harder to breathe, I can't say it is specific to the brand or style though. I got the rubber gloves at Lowes >> www.lowes.com/pd_425006-68591-VEN6045R_0__?productId=50218409&Ntt= they're one size fits all and most of the time I wear a large size glove. Hope all of this helps you out!

jmink Thanks for the reply and the helpful links! I got the mask you recommended from amazon and it works great, I can't smell any fumes and its nice to not get your nose clogged with dust. I'll be heading to harbor freight tomorrow to get those rubber gloves as well. Thanks again!

I am looking to do a similar project om 17 ft 1970 glastron what do you think about just getting the bad wood out leaving the fiberglass sides of the stinger system filling that with high density pour foam 8lb or better and glassing over that with 1708
@jmink8 жыл бұрын
+Chris Horton baseball I think if the original fiberglass surrounding the wood isn't too rough of shape, i'd say it's worth looking into. I've seen the method you're talking about, but I don't know enough about it to say what the pros and cons are. I do remember seeing a guy use seacast to pour in then fiberglass over like you are talking about and he seemed to get great results.

Do you still have outlines for stringers and transom board? I am restoring same model board and all stringers are completely gone bad. Thanks
@jmink9 жыл бұрын
Vladislav Simonenko to be honest I didn't keep much, but I do have my original transom and possibly my original center dagger stringer. I just can't remember without looking through my shop if I have the dagger or not. Let me take a look and I will try to get you some measurements on what I have.

@@jmink I would love to have the transom pattern. I have a 1972 v156
