Avonisys waterjet guided laser technology is applied to create intricate features of high aspect-ratio and highly dense patterns in metal and technical ceramic work pieces.
In this video we showcase cutting of 1x1mm square holes of 10mm deep that are spaced only 0.25mm apart. The result can be referred to as a transparent metal®.

Thanks for the detailed video! I saw a similar technology at Synova, but there is no AirJet. It would be interesting to look at the freeform cutting Alumina ceramic 99,6% with a thickness of 250um.

I would love to see it doo a 1.00 mm holes grid spaced 1.00 mm or if it is possible 1.00 mm holes spaced 0.25 mm, not squares but dots as small as 1 dot from the water laser nozzle to see how low in Millimeters you can go, maybe can you do a 0.10 mm or a 0.01 mm? or show a test in how low you can go until it fails? and how will it react to the material glass or stone?

Glass cannot be cut with this process. Some stone type can. The main use is technical ceramics and metal processing

why shouldnt it? applied science allready made a "sort of" working water jet with diy parts coupling a high power laser (which is hard to get by itself..) into it shouldnt be a huge problem . a fiber laser source with barely enough power to even cut plastics costs, even from cheapo china & co. 2..3k$ and up. and you cant use a regular powerful co2 laser with this due to the wavelength-

@@danijel124 more or less everything is available already. A large enough cnc that you can adapt this onto to make it work is about 1000$, a fiber laser is about the 500$ range and about 500$ more will go into the extra parts if we are not to generous. You can do it, but it will never be a home user gadget.

What’s the smallest hole diameter possible? can this be done with an even finer grid?
@Avonisys
@Avonisys 3 жыл бұрын
Typically the smallest hole is 0.3mm. The aspect ratio typically can be up to 20:1 (for cutting kerfs up to 400:1). A finer square holes is also possible. The spacing can also be reduced still a bit. 0.15mm should be fine

Do you guys have any data of material loss during the cutting progress, I wonder if you could cut gold with it
@Avonisys
@Avonisys 3 жыл бұрын
The cutting kerf is approx. 0.06mm only over the full depth. So with that you could calculate the material loss for a certain geometry

This thing bridges a huge gap between wire and waterjet! I bet it would be great for stator laminations because laser tends to overheat them, or so I've been told.

There is a place for all these technologies. The WJL (Waterjet Laser) is typically applied for micro cutting and can do both conductive and non-conductive materials

Most laser cutting devices will have a red laser just so you can see exactly where its cutting/gonna cut. Its also both a laser and water jet doing the work.
@Avonisys
@Avonisys 3 жыл бұрын
The laser is doing the cutting. It is an Infrared laser so not visible to the human eye and only marginally for the camera. The red spot that you see before the cutting starts is a pilot LED that is used to illuminate the waterjet nozzle for its alignment to the laser beam.
