So I actually get what your saying about taking time and pacing yourself. I hurt my back last year lifting a heavy bag of mulch into a wheel barrel and took many months to heal. The constant bending forward is bad too. I've learned now at 50 that I what to enjoy my garden more and less be a slave to it. Although gardening is therapeutic for many including myself, somethings it can revert to the opposite. You eventually know in your heart and body when your dream garden space is at the end of completion and then that's when you can fully enjoy the fruits of your labor as they say.

A girl after my own heart, love that color mulch and so satisfying to see a bed freshly mulched. I'm in northern Illinois and just received snow, so ready for spring.

I have been able to get free wood mulch from an arborist who takes care of our neighbor's trees. It is nice since I know that they don't spray their trees with stuff that I would rather not have in my garden. And last year my husband purchased a shredder machine ?? that takes care of all the yard trimmings, and I use that as well. I totally agree with pacing ourselves in gardening. I worked a good amount of time in cleaning up my flower beds a few days ago and the next day when I got out of bed... well let's just say I felt every bit my age! I took it a bit easier the next day. 😅

Yes! Love a freshly mulched bed - it looks so good! We normally pick up 'the good stuff' from a local place with our trailer, but this spring we were able to get about 20 yards of 'standard' mulch from a local arborist, so we jumped on that. It won't look as pretty but it will do the job & I figured that I can top it up with the 'good stuff' later. I hear you on taking it easy & always having to keep learning that same lesson - I WAY overdid it a couple of days ago as I knew we were in for some really cold/rainy days (someone's gotta deal with that mountain of mulch, lol!)

That arborist mulch will be great and I have done the same thing by putting a thin layer of colored mulch over it. That's a lot of mulch to move, take it slow!! 🤗💐🌸🌷

Those daffodils are looking goegeous Soleil. Here in Australia it is Autumn and daffodil bulb planting time. I have just bought four different varieties of daffodil and planted them in a new garden bed. The mulch looks great too. It always makes such a difference.

I agree mulch makes such a difference. I mulch my gardens too. I tried growing butterfly bush but it was not hardy for me in my zone 5b garden. Bonny

Mulch looks nice! I use that color too. That encourages me to get started with it, as most of my perennials are up already, also here in Michigan. 17:54

Soleil, is that shovel you are using called the Root Slayer? I was just looking through my Gardner’s Supply catalog and it sure looks like the same one! If it is I sure will be getting one. Thanks so much for your great videos❤️

Since I’m a fairly new viewer I’m curious as to what amendments you put into the soil of your fairly new (2 years old) flower bed. I too have clay soil. I have used composted cow manure and leaf mulch.
